So last weekend my roomates had the cable company come down and fix the receptions on thier cable tv. Now whenever I'm at tastyspleen, I ping 100+ more than I was. Is there any way to fix this? ???

That sounds like it would be an ISP issue. You have cable I assume?

do some traceroutes to the server and post them up lets see where your problem lies.
you could have more noise on the line now. might be on your end.
or you can try pathping as well from the cmd line in xp

I'm having some huge ping problems too. My computer's HDD recently crashed, and I just got it back from the shop. They installed a new antivirus program, Kaspersky, replacing Norton. Now when I play my ping is twice what it used to be(80-90), and I keep getting huge lag, even though there's practically nothing else running on my computer. Anyway, it's making it terribly hard to play. I already got accused of using a speed hack once

definately turn it off when playing.
I have a program called WinPatrol running and it works great
for what it's designed to do. One of the things it does badly
is totally bog down Q2 for me in the exact way you described.

I uninstalled the whole thing and now quake (and everything else) works great. Any suggestions for a new antivirus program (not norton)?

I dont have any problems with Norton, but if you want a decent free anti-virus try AVG.
Google it

But if you had an antivirus program that didn't catch all the viruses, how would you know unless they made your computer crap out? OR DID I JUST BLOW YOUR MIND?!?!?!?!

I've been using AntiVir for years - on all my servers (mail, web, file) as well as workstations - it's available in all kinds of flavors - and they have a "free" personal version as well. All updates are free and the program can be configured to auto check for updates ever couple hours or so.
