Tool is not metal. Like I said before it doesn't just take guitars and distortion to be metal.

Don't argue that Tool is metal if you don't have a clue about what you're talking about.

They're like alternative rock or something.

Does Tool sound like Burzum, Mayhem, Darkthrone? No...guess they're not black metal...

Does Tool sound like Suffocation, Immolation, Gorguts? Not really...guess they're not death metal...

Does Tool sound like Saint Vitus, Candlemass or Reverend Bizarre? No, so they're not really doom metal...

Does Tool sound like The Lord Weird Slough Feg, Windir or Graveland? No...so they're not really folk metal.

Does Tool sound like (early) Carcass, Repulsion or Terrorizer? No...no grindcore either.

Does Tool sound like Jag Panzer, Helloween or Dragonforce? No...guess no power metal either.

Does Tool sound like Fates Warning, Symphony X or Queensr

I hate to agree with wiggy on anything, but he's right on target here.

If you take away the thumpin bass and the odd electronica, it's alternative.

Tool is about as close to metal as Atreyu.

it doesn't necessarily mean that the music is metal.

example : metalcore

they should call it whiny-yelling-alternacore.
because there is very little real metal involved.

I don't know anyone who would classify tool as "heavy metal" either.

maybe progressive and alternative but minus the metal suffixes.

Just because you don't think so and you think you know everything there has to do about metal doesn't mean that you're right. Can you please enlighten me and make me learn what metal really is. If you say Tool is metal I sure have a lot of things to learn about metal and I've really been wrong for MANY years and really bought 300 cds and downloaded at least 1000 albums mistakenly thinking I was listening to metal all this time.
