Wow, Svet--I almost broke into tears at the sight of that Epiphone 335 copy. That was my first guitar, though mine was red. My best friend sold it to me for $80 to help defray the cost of his real ES 335. He regretted that from the get-go The Gibson--the "real thing"--sounded great, with that smokey, mellow 335 tone, and of course it could get the Chuck Berry sound too, but it never sounded as hot and crackling as the much lighter-weight Epiphone knockoff. Sadly, I had to sell it when I was in college to pay a utility bill.

Thanks for the memories!

P.S. Just curious: is yours a "hot" one like mine was? I've picked up a few in the intervening years, but most of them sounded more like...well, ES 335s, which is what they were intended to sound like, surely, but I found their lack of "hotness" a detriment, even if they did sound more like the "real thing." Maybe mine was just some weird fluke of the early 70s (which was its vintage). That guitar could get D-I-R-T-Y way more than any "real" ES 335.

Hi Johnny, the Sheraton can get downright dirty when kicked in with the Ibanez tube screamer.  It is a very versatile guitar.  This is my second Epiphone as I once owned a Sheraton II some years back.  That guitar could have been thought of as a poor mans ES 335.  This one is in a whole different league.  It is part of Epiphone's "Elite" lineup that uses better quality materials and USA made electronics.  The instruments are also inspected and set up at Gibson's factory before being shipped.  I can' justify spending es 335 money on a Gibson when these guitars are available.  Not only are the fantastic to play and sound phenomenal, they also are much prettier looking with the Abalone and Mother of Pearl inlays. You should hop on over to Epiphones website and have a look at the Elite lineup.  I am thinking about picking up a Broadway when they come out.
