Trash talk and annoying binds etc. were a big problem when I played netquake....

there was a command like.. con_notifytime 0 that made it so you never saw any text,
I played like this for a loooong time... only going to console if I wanted to see what ppl
were yammering about.

TDM players are often so used to jerky comments that people now think it is just "part of the game". This is an excuse used to justify rude behavior.

Talking s*** with friends is fun or even hilarious.
Talking s*** with people you don't know, especially new players, is rude and a shame.

Treat people with respect and you set the standard for how they treat you.

Put another way, when players such as Squonk stop playing we all have fewer people to play with. There are plenty of other players/teams who feel the same.

I think this is an excellent point. The kind of egregious spamming perpetrated by some players on vanilla, would probably simply not be tolerated on tourney servers. A vote kick, at the very least. If that didn't work, most likely a ref ban would follow in short order.

Anyway, I finally coded up the ip-based mute feature.

We'll see how it goes. I've muted crusty and DISEASED PUSSY for now. Maybe they'll get the message. We'll try removing the mutes after some time period.

Bad luck for Jesusnator, as he happened to be spamming vanilla right when i finished the code.

I planned to unmute Jesusnator after a map or two, as he's not a crusty or DISEASED PUSSY level spammer. But he's spamming the forums shoutbox now.

console, speak normally. You know, trying to make yourself look "smart" isn't necessary to impress me. You will never impress me, especially with your admin skills. It's kind of funny to watch sometimes, but others, it isn't needed. All you needed to say is about me fighting servers. Hey, spamming him didn't bother me, it was his spamming that bothered me. ROTL
Although at first it was just for fun, now that i think about it, that was like a nine year old and both of us we're probably annoying the hell out of everybody else.
In fact... he was probably hoping someone would start spamming him back, in that case I probably fell right into his trap.
So when someone starts that crap I won't make it worse by spamming back.
