Unintentional Chats

The strangest thing just happened to me on the mutant server (27910). I joined, and as soon as I did, messaged all these random numbers and letters (3 lines in all) for no apparent reason. At the same time this was happening, my computer froze for a few seconds, then started working normally again. I've been playing quake for a while and i've never seen anything like this happen. It could be some dumbass thing I'm doing, but it's strange. I also have a screenshot of when it happened, and if it helps i can post it.

This has happened to me in the past as well.

I don't know what causes it.

Howdy...

The q2admin software periodically spams a bunch of silent (and harmless) commands to quake clients as part of its bot detection.  However, if you happen to get a lag spike while it's sending you those commands, sometimes things get scrambled and the commands print instead of being processed silently.

If you want to watch it sometime, do: developer 1 in your console.  A whole bunch of text will start printing out.  Most of that is just from quake.  But occasionally--particularly when you just enter a new map--you well see stuff that looks like that gibberish from the "unintentional chats" go streaming by - but without actually being 'spoken'.

Set developer back to zero to turn off all the noise...
