Looks like something very fishy is going on here "gl_modlate is NOT a q2 command" but in his screen it shows up to "1" then he sets it to "0" and takes a screenshot?

gl_modulate is a setting for your opengl vid driver... look in your config.cfg

its kinda a brightness setting... it makes everything a certain amount brighter as you raise the
value...

try typing /gl_modulate 10( or something along those lines) in the console. and do a vid restart..
see what happens.

I'd assume that he wanted more natural shadows in his screenshots because his
game is set really bright during normal play.

read more carefully.. he didn't type gl_modulate, he typed gl_modlate, good eye randy.. seems very weird

That is sort of bizarre, isn't it.

Certainly you could make quake act that way by earlier having typed:

set gl_modlate 1

...but ...why?

that is rather funky. could be a disguised command to turn on/off the hax

I'd assume it was on, if the value was "1", and then he turned it off.
