There are a couple of positive things about it for me:

(1) People move slowly enough that I can sometimes actually hit them with the railgun.

(2) If I suck really bad on that map, I can always blame it on the low gravity screwing up my game.

I like 200-400 gravity...gives you shots you cant get in normal gravity...and for you railers i know it makes targets like sitting ducks :PI like the lotto :)

as far as i can see there is no lottery, it is always on dm8, which is my favorite map.  it totally negates all the speed possible to generate in the long straight hallways.  as u can tell i am not a fan.

i do too! but playing space with the regualr 800 gravity is kinda neat. Its something no ones used to, so it gives someone who has done it a few times the edge while others are trying to figure out why, when the try jumping over the space pit, they die instead of float lol.

I can appreciate trying to inject some freshness and spontaneity in the maps with the lottery, but I hate it.  It unduly lengthens the time of the maps, and on those occasions with few players, that's a real drag.  

Oddly enough, I usually do well in one of the normal anti-grav maps, but nevertheless, I'd like to see it go.

My question on new subject:  What about this arbitrary (i.e. console picks) frag total per map?

Some are 20 frags, some are 30, some are 50, some are 65 or whatever, and not always the same maps/same frag totals.  

Less total frags on long complex maps is fine, and more frags on confined space maps is fine.  But a lot of times I have an expectation of 30 frags for a given map and then find out after the fact that it's a 50 or greater.
Yeah, I'm sure it flashes by in the beginning of the map,  but I'm wondering if console can change it on the fly, too.  

I guess I'm more of a sprinter than a marathoner, meaning my bias is toward shorter frag totals unless it's a real shootout.  I can't tell you how many times I've been the first to 30, only to lose by 5 or so when we hit the magic 50.  Boo!   heheh

Regarding varying fraglimit.

There are a couple drivers here at the moment.  One is, that when fraglimit was set to 30, we got requests for certain maps, like ware2, fact1, etc. to raise the fraglimit, because the maps were over so quickly.

So we did that, and threw on some "low" fraglimits for less popular maps like train and hangar2 and koth4 and koth5.

That's "part 1"...  Part 2 is with the new custom maps.  We're still spinning those by hand.  (Eventually we'd like to let players influence the nextmap list themselves... but that code's not written yet.)  So... sometimes we crank up the fraglimit for various reasons on the new maps.  Sometimes it's because it's a tiny rail map and 30 gives less than two minutes of play time on the map... Other times, we might raise the limit because half the players spent so much time downloading that by the time they join, the map would be almost over.

...Hmm....

So we'll keep in mind that if players don't know what the fraglimit is, it can subtract from the fun.  I'm not sure setting them all to 30 is the answer, because when we do that we get different complaints.  Open to ideas...
