Yeah, here in Orlando, we had the same thing happen, then recently, when I wasn't looking (the sneaky bastards), they upped it again from 5 to either 7 or 8 megs.  Geez, talk about hitting a brother while he's down...... I guess it's not all bad though, my downloads somehow are faster now too!  wow!

yeah a about 2 months ago my ISP NTL World in the UK upgraded me from 2Mb/s to 10Mb/s had to pay a little extra but its well worth it.

I think all this benevolent behaviour from the cable companies comes from one thing - competition. After having a monopoly for years, they're giving up market share to Satellite TV and DSL technology on the Internet business. Bout time.......

Yeah there has been huge court battles over it.  The phone company is pissed also, because they'll have to allow access to their infrastructure so the other companies can compete.  It would also be expensive as hell to setup your own cable/phone lines to provide services, you'd see like 50x the wires running through neighborhoods.
