This is what I'm hearing so far..

standard quake2 because it is standard
aprq2 for pretty graphics
nocheat for features while mouse/movement same as standard
r1q2 for features including framerate decoupling, mouse speed, and movement

Suprised to see no Q2A.

we have the nocheat 2.40 beta 2 zip and a few other things like the gxmod server files (win only) and the 3.20 patch on the devine clan site, which is located here....

I was unaware until recently that anyone was even still using filesource, at the time I made the site I was planning on doing some things with it and then some real life stuff got in the way and eventually I forgot all about it, but as of march I've been working on an update for it and in may or june I'm going to promote it along with a couple of other things for q2. Now that places like q2players.org are getting shut down it's pretty much the only place anywhere that houses a complete directory of windows q2 files, so when I update it I plan to add all the linux fules I can find to it as well.

That and I'm going to try to code an upload page that would allow people from the site to upload their paks or whatever and have them displayed in a "users paks" section or something like that, to make it a little more current. I've got the script halfway written, it's just I don't have a mysql database to test this stuff on anymore so things are moving somewhat slow.

When I finally get my shit together and get filesource moved + updated I'm going to beg quadz & fanny for some kind of direct link to it from the message boards or the site or something.

I wish more people knew about it ;D

i use aprq2 99% of the time.

i think r1q2 is still the best out there, but i'm a sucker for the looks and feel of aprq2. its not as smooth and stable as r1q2 though.

I think Aprq2 is insanely smooth and feels great, adds 10 - 20 fps on for me, not sure how but I bloody love it, I dont have many fancy features turned on though.

All those using standard Q2 should really consider switching to something else such as R1Q2, EGL or AprQ2. The number of security bugs in the original Q2 is scary. If you're dead set on standard 3.20, at least use my binary patches that remove some of the more serious exploits

I use mbmrbmrmljljlgrgrr2d2r1q2aprilfoolsq3a.exe.nfo client with .dll and mbmrbrb bot extension server/client add-on.

EGL all the way, when dialed in correctly, it can run quite fast, and the graphics are UNREAL! Please note that the quality of this shot was reduced for PhotoBucket:
