I was bored so I made another pak. It's a mish-mash of other peoples' stuff with no real rhyme or reason , but it's got some nifty features. The rail trail is nice and it's mostly all pcx. Only some player skins are png, but there are alternative pcx skins too.

One of the things I love about Quake2 is how customizable it's always been. And I don't think they ever really intended people to customize it the way I do with paks, it just kinda happened that way by accident.

Anyway...

If you have photoshop or a free photoshop wannabe prog like Gimp (photoshop is better though), you can make your own stuff fairly easily. The newer clients allow you to use PNG images, which allows you to multiply the size of that PNG image by 2 or 4 times what the original PCX was in order to achieve greater detail and resolution.

Still not done with the pak I started making along with the model skins I was doing last summer. Maybe at some point this year, I'll get back to it and finish it off. Most of it might be done, I'm not really sure. I think I had started on the last leg of it with customizing some of the weapon skins.

After looking at it...

You have numerous CFG's in there, I'm thinking probably leftover stuff from the originial pak you modified to make this one. It looks like a bunch of polish deathmatch aliases and such, things you don't really need. Even R1ch's hi-res texture pak at 100+mb isn't gonna have a noticeably longer load time than a 1mb file, but for the sake of maximizing web space and reducing download times for others trying to get a copy of it, I try to keep anything unnecessary out of the file. Just a thought.

I notice some of the weapons were consistent colors, like the rocket launcher was all red, and the hyperblaster was all green. But then other weapons have patches of color on them. Was that intentional, or is something wrong on my end?









Your armor skins with that blue biohazard design kinda make it confusing to tell them apart. :dohdohdoh:

Heheh, yeah I noticed the .cfg's. If anyone needs some good configs....

The textures on the weapons are a little off, it came like that. I consider it a kind of futuristic "techhnoflage". The jacket and combat armour are virtually identical save for one having a collar and a bit of bright bits, that's true. The body armour looks sharp all in red though, I think so at least. The shards seem a bit brighter and redder too. I like the chain-gun wind-up and down sounds, and that red and white rail trail is cool. What else.... the red water is weird but something different.The pak is a combination of paks, but mostly from Mikka's pak. I have no idea who that is btw.

 It would be nice to have the weapons look in your hand as they do before you pick them up, but that would take some work. The RL, RG, GL and HB would be easy enough, and I did that once with a pak by somebody called Barton which had all solid colours.

 I use different clients but some of the colours in this pak really take off in the Berserker client and an older D3D client that seems to give  a glowing, deeper lustre and depth to the colourful weapons and so on.

Hehe, yeah, i forgot but I was gonna mention the red water too. I thought that might've been missing texture or something because usually R1Q2 does some kinda red color thing by default for anything with missing textures.
