Racism With Player on DM

hi, idk how you guys feel or stand for it. someone on the DM server has been spewing racism in the server. taunting george floyyd and saying america is a sh*t country etc etc. are there rules for such things to get these people removed? user nuf was ranting and arguing amongst players. if this is in the wrong section, please deal with this accordingly thank you.

It's a tremendous help to post a condump of what transpired(condump asdf in console). If you recorded a demo you can fast-fwd till the end then dump the text in console with 'condump' as well. It's a bit time consuming to go through and find the worst instances of what he said, and I'm also not 100% sure what his alias is from reading your post. Nuf, or user nuf? You'll see results faster if you make everything abundantly clear for admins.

I think it's accurate to say that he probably wouldn't be 'removed'(banned) for this. Depending on the severity of his actions, this could result in anywhere from a partial mute(can only talk every so often) or a full mute for a specified time(I.e. 2-3 months). That and a warning from console usually does the trick. If he's a repeat offender then there will be different consequences, but that's up to quadz. Just trying to save him some time.

I do not have log ofc.. however I am sure the relay on MIRC captured all required. This server has become a grounds for sh*t, I am tired of going in and there are trolls, taunters. Perhaps it is time to find another server all together where at least mods/admins are more active and involved. I understand it is an old game, but if this is what you are paying for... you should have more care.

It'll get reviewed, everyone doesn't regularly idle in irc like we used to, and there's some that only do so on their work computer that they don't have access to on weekends(it's Sunday).

If swift action and response is what you desire then posting a condump and clearly stating the name of the player saying the offending stuff is the best route to take. If you don't have a condump, then state the day, time, and server in addition to the players name. So far I am not 100% sure about any of this information from the description you provided except that it occurred on the dm server.

Like I said after it gets reviewed any sort of punishment will depend on the severity. This system works, but it all depends on the information you provide and players reporting it. TS has the only servers left with active players and available admins on a forum that I know of in the U.S. so I really don't think that's an issue. The more information you provide the faster the response will be.

OK, so someone from Brazil with a political & cultural beef with USA.

It took him 2 hours to say all of the above, so we don't have a case of someone flooding the server with spam chat.

We don't typically ban someone just for being an asshole with bad opinions.

One thing I think might help would be to give individual players better control over what chat they want to see. If you could say "/mute nuf" in console and have his chat go away on your end, then you'd have an option. (Some clients implement a "/ignore" feature, which sort of works, but server-side would be more effective.)

Anyway...

I don't see anything particularly racist. Though they aren't really very well informed about the complex political issues they are very opinionated on. It sounds like just random drunken ranting. Though I will agree he does sound like quite an asshole.

My 2 cents: As long as it isn't particularly racist, and the guy is just being a dumb twat, just ignore him. The /ignore command in r1q2, q2pro, etc. works off of pattern recognition I believe so you can just list his name and it will filter out all messages from him. If he isn't spamming then it doesn't seem like it is out of the ordinary.

Political beliefs aren't really racist by default. I argued with an admin on a quakelive server who muted some one for saying something bad about a particular political party to the point that they banned me for a bit. Seeing that kind of shit happen elsewhere gives you some perspective of where overly protective admins could lead. I'd rather be in a space where you get some idiots voicing their poorly informed opinions and choose to either respond or ignore it myself, than have a server admin police what is and is not acceptable.

Why carpet the whole world when you can just wear shoes.

If they annoy you that much, just hunt them down and kill them in ways that will make them mad until they ragequit. Usually a fun way to go about it. (in the server ofc, not advocating murder) Bonus points if you get the rest of the server to join in.

(Just hit preview as I was typing this up to make sure that version of the word wouldn't get censored/filtered. First time I've ever seen that filter response. LOL, quadz was awesome. )

But if anyone's got access to whatever word filter file the servers are using, might be prudent to add the numeric workaround of the word as well, "n1gger/n1g-nog/etc". Honestly, I'm pretty sure I've used that workaround myself once or twice. It probably should've been accounted for before now.
