Need to reinstall on Mac and having trouble

Hey guys,
I've been away from Q2 a few months as my 10 year old Mac finally gave up the ghost and I was then away all summer. I am trying to reinstall the game but all of the instructions I have seen are super technical and I am at a loss. Any way to "easily" get up and running again? I used to have either Fruits of Dojo or Yamagi Q2 running but I can't remember how I did it.
What I did so far:
I downloaded & installed the Quetoo.org version
Then I get to:
Compiling
Compiling this version of Quake II is actually quite easy if you follow the Quetoo developers' guide to install all of the game's dependencies. Once you've installed the dependencies, simply typing make should build the game for you. The INSTALL file located in the source directory covers the details and walks you through installing the Quake II game data, too.
I tried reading all this stuff and got lost immediately.
Can anyone hook up an old timer who wants to get his frag on?
Thx,
Tim

Hello,
Here are some precompiled binaries of the yamagi port.
https://deponie.yamagi.org/quake2/osx/
The latest one is at the bottom of the page.
They are much newer than the quetoo code, but no celshading. Also, the http downloading is buggered up with quetoo. I always had to disable it, but that was under Linux.

So I copied my pak files and maps over but no dice. I am getting a weird red background that flickers with the game rendered in a small window although I am set to Open GL. Is three anything else I need to copy over?

DM server is fucked. 2 point blank rockets from spawn and lava damage and player survived? WTF?" Also someone has fucked with the spawn points, every single time no matter how big the map you spawn right in front of the person who killed you last
