1....I know! I can't use a bfg worth a fuck! but the bfg finds me like a magnet without fail! its truly tragic haha.

2.... I can beat them without using quad - it just gets old real fast. I usually give them the chance to not grab the quad, but when they do I will grab it every time if I can. fucking filthy savages. I swear, I hear al swearingens voice telling me 'god damn quad worshipping dirty heathens!'

I'm on board with this, but that's what the "classic" server is for. The last time I was playing (a couple months ago approx), I was trying to encourage people to go to the classic server instead of DM, but I wasn't too successful.

Just in case that wasn't clear: The classic server is basically the DM server but without powerups (quad/invuln) and the BFG is disabled - oh! and there's no mymap either... which is what I greatly prefer. My opinion is if you don't like dm1-dm8, go play on mutant. DM should be for dm1-dm8.

Ahhh c'mon y'all. Let the bfg users be happy in a dead game in which you need all the players you can get. Punish them for going for bfg. Dj up to bfg and get it in 3 seconds opposed to those that ride the conveyor belt. Give em a taste of their own medicine

Haven't always legitimately "not given a fuck" even when maybe I claimed to, but these days, oh no, I really and sincerely DO NOT give a fuck anymore. And it's quite liberating... like... a douche commercial from the early 90's.

And I started to go on a rant about the type of person who DOES give a fuck... a "care hard", I think is the common term around here for such folk. But... fuck it. I'd be caring too much if I did that, and then I'd be a hypocrite probably.

Anyway, the main piece of advice I'd give: If you can't take the crabs, go to a different whore house.

I(we?) understand. I used to be a competitive player and any "cheapo" kills someone would get on me would frustrate me. Just bait them when they go for bfg. Or get good enough where them going for bfg doesn't matter. Its a dead game it would suck to  chase people off.

For dm1, what I'd originally done was place a quad way up on the "roof" of dm1, as more of an easter egg - hard to get to. (Most players on vanilla/dm barely do jumps at all, let alone the rocket+grenade jump needed to get on the roof.)

At some point, later, someone suggested moving the quad down to the arena. I think it may have been because something similar was done in Quake 4?

But, it's been there ever since. (I'd actually almost forgotten it didn't used to be there!)

I get it. But... I don't get it. It's not that big of a deal. Everyone uses it. So can you. Like Obama taught us, "BE the dickhead you see in the world." Or Maybe that was "be the change you want to see in the world." But in that case, people aren't gonna STOP using the bfg just because you do. So... just use it more than they do.

It's all good. I ramble also.. I also complain from time to time as you can no doubt see! generally im ok.. I was just feeling burnt on bfg use I cant escape that shit... its funny. I see others dodge my bfg but I am a  magnet to theirs. partially I miss often with bfg cuz I just want to get the blast out of the way so I can use a gun im more familiar with. the game is too old to complain of trivial shit and you guys make some valid points. I was probably just sleep deprived but that doesn't mean I enjoy those guns or power up. basically im getting older and im all about 'get off my lawn with your quad' etc...

A few details about the BFG that can help to know:

 - quad damage only boosts the BFG lasers, not the big explosion itself (the BFG main explosion ignores quad damage)

 - damage falls off over the square of the distance from the blast

 - you only take damage from the BFG blast if BOTH of the following conditions are true: YOU have line-of-sight on the blast point; your enemy who fired the BFG has line of sight on YOU at the moment of the blast!

That last point is pretty key to both avoiding damage and causing damage.

To avoid taking damage from the blast, if you can't duck out of sight of where the blast is going to occur, just duck out of sight of the player that fired it.
