Is the last line doing sleight of hand based on order of operations?

3X = 45

2Y+X = 23

Y+2Z = 10

Z+Y(Y*X) = ??

yeah you multiply first through the order of operations. I don't think I've seen the right answer yet though. take a closer look at the variables(in this case bananas, clocks, and shapes).

18 (?)

1st line:
3 same icons of 3shapes = 45

( 3shapes = 15 )
It shows 3 shapes, so it could be that one shape = 5

2nd line:
4bananas + 4bananas + 3shapes = 23

4bananas + 4bananas + 15 = 23
23 - 15 = 8

4bananas + 4bananas = 8
( 4bananas = 4 )
It shows 4 bananas, so one banana probably = 1

3rd line:
4bananas + 3o'clock  + 3o'clock = 10

4 + 3o'clock  + 3o'clock  = 10
10 - 4 = 6

3o'clock  + 3o'clock = 6
( 3o'clock = 3 )
It shows 3o'clock, so each hour on the clock = 1

one shape = 5
one banana = 1
one hour on the clock = 1

4th line:
2o'clock (=2) + 3bananas (=3) + 3bananas (=3) + 2shapes (=10) = 18

what I inferred was:

45/3 is 15, and there are a total of 15 sides to the 3 shapes, so each side is 1.

Therefore 23 - 15 is 8. 8/2 is 4, so the bananas equal 4.

10 - 4 is 6, 6/2 is 3, since the clocks are at 3, it can be assumed that each hour is 1.

What I DIDN'T notice before because I was looking only at the smaller thumbnailed pic is that the number of bananas changed. So in the last expression I was assuming:

2 + 4 + 4 is 10, and the are 11 sides to the shape, so 10 x 11 is 110.

But if the bananas are 1 each, then that means

2 + 3 + 3 = 8, 8 x 11 = 88

Is the last line doing sleight of hand based on order of operations?
....

Z+Y(Y*X) = ??

I don't remember much about algebra, but I do remember "do the shit in parenthesis FIRST". And usually the multiply or divide was first. So if it's like Quadz says, then I guess the answer would be 38.

See, I thought about that when I first noticed the multiply, but I figured the question would've either included parenthesis or put the multiply at the beginning of the equation if they wanted you to do it first. Instead, yeah, it appears they want to leave out that information and have you assume it based on math rules, just to trick you and make it harder. But I seem to remember cases in math books where they intentionally did not multiply first. So the problem is with the asshole who invented this puzzle, not anyones math.

45/3 is 15, but you also count the total sides of the shapes in the 4th line. The square is missing. Less bananas and multiply first is 38. Focalor got it.

Acer you missed the multiplication sign. That's not a bad idea correlating each shape to 5. I was more inclined to think it was the amount of sides though given they're different shapes(not constant concerning an equation). I think I'm right but that wasn't a bad thought.

The question is flawed in my opinion. Nothing states that the values in line 4 can be assumed to be related in any way to the values of anything in the previous 3 expressions.

Maybe a clock at 2o'clock actually equates to 20, maybe 3 bananas is 100, and maybe the hexagon with a pentagon inside it is really 5000.

A folded paper airplane and an F-22 Raptor are both referred to as "airplanes", but they aren't really similar.
