NCAA March Madness Basketball Thread 2018

Yeah, I've been making these threads for awhile. And yeah, I know I'm way more into it than y'all. I watch football more than anything, but growing up in NC you are either Carolina or Duke so I watch college basketball too. Tonight at 9pm EST North Carolina plays Duke in the semi-finals of the ACC championship. They are 1-1 in the regular season both teams winning at home. I'd tune in if I were you. You might see blood, ejections, etc. It's always a close game. During Roy Williams' time at UNC and K at Duke the total point margin is in favor of duke by 20some points. It means that Duke on average outscores Carolina by a fraction of a point. These schools 8 miles apart collectively have a more successful resume than any other conference. This is why us North Carolinians watch this shit. The Ohio state Michigan rivalry can kiss my ass. Frazier VS Ali and Arnold Palmer v Jack Nicklaus were something special decades ago, but those rivalries were 1 on 1. UNC vs Duke takes the cake folks. ESPN @ 9pm.
The SEC has always been about kentucky in basketball but they've had an off year. Then you'd mention Florida. Tennessee USED to be known for basketball but has been off the radar for over a decade now. And most recently Arkansas and South Carolina have been pretty good. But, this season Auburn is the top team in the SEC
And to top it all off they just lost to low-seeded Alabama by over 20 in the SEC tournament.

Grayson Allen did it again(and again). He tripped two UNC players last night. One with a subtle hip check and one with a traditional ankle hook--but the player saw it coming and only barely tangled up with him. I think this is the best title The NY Times has ever published:

Oh dang. I JUST realized I made this thread in General Ownage and not dev random.
quadz could you please move it over when you see this? No post to link the thread is needed
The committee made their selections today. UNC got the better corner of the bracket I think, but anything can happen in these tournaments so we'll see.

at Arizona losing by more than 20. This team was picked by most analysts to win everything. Bahahaha. Nc state, Miami, and va tech all lost too. Florida won. One thing sports media seems to be correct about is that this year the tournament is even more unpredictable than usual.

#1 overall seed Virginia goes down by 20 to #16 University of Maryland Baltimore County
A #1 has never lost to a #16 until now

Yes. It's crazy. Like you said Virginia wasn't just a number 1 seed but THE overall #1 in the country. And UMBC beat them by 20. AND UMBC had to land a buzzer beater to even make the tournament.
Biggest upset in NCAA basketball tournament history, and it'll start cracking the lists of biggest upsets in USA sports.

I'm watching Ohio State Gonzaga currently. It's an extremely close game so it's "exciting" in that aspect, I guess. And I'll probably sound like a biased asshole but I'm used to tobacco road. If UNC played like either of these teams if be pissed haha. They're both just really tired I guess but I'm going to switch to catch the 2nd half of Florida Texas tech.

Florida's out, not surprising. They played okay, but played without moving the ball and missed a lot of free throws down the stretch

It's overcast and raining all weekend
It was a close game for 3/4 of it, but in that 8 minutes where a&m dominated all UNC could do is just keep the deficit at 20 for the rest of the game. When you're facing a team that's bigger than you, you have to make your outside shots. Carolina didn't.

It has been a crazy tourney so far. We did not make it to the sweet 16 before there were no perfect brackets left in the ESPN Tourney Challenge.
