Q2 20th anniversary was a total FAILURE!!!

I made a post there at the european forum of the quake community about my indigination with the lack of great attention that QuakeCon failed to give for Q2 compared to the epic 20th anniversary celebration tournament of QW last year: http://esreality.com/post/2890553/q2-20th-anniversary-where-the-f-is-this-being-celebrated/

But it's not just a flaw in QuakeCon, but in the global Q2 community!!! 

Oh, come on, look what the QW community did last year, that was something enviable! and EPIC! And just look at what the Q2 community has done so far? I believe that something epic should already have been planned in advance for this year. A lanparty celebration with many famous players(europeans and NA players), with streams coverage and the whole shit! A great duel, teamplay and CTF tournaments all together in a big event(after all, despite different mods, it's all Q2)!

I honestly do not know the reason for so much APATHY from the Q2 community compared to the community of other quake series games. Q2 has been one of the best Quakes to date, one of the largest ever communities I've ever seen, when in 2000 there were thousands of Q2 servers all over the world, full of players (even in Brazil there were hundreds, I remember). Now everything is so deplorable.

I did not even see any good players from Tastyspleen here in QuakeCon, like Naymlis, Barton, Optica, etc...!

And then? 2017 will pass blank and nothing will be deservedly done for our beloved Q2???

I don't see why these people should have to take a week off from their jobs and their lives and pay money to fly/road-trip to some QuakeCon thing just so YOU can feel like a video game is still relevant. Fuck QuakeCon. You can play the game from home and save gas. The game is relevant as long as YOU play it. And it ain't getting any younger. The older it gets, the fewer regular players it has. So be glad it's lasted THIS long. How many other games from the late 90's are still getting any play? Quake1 hardly has ANYONE. Finding a Q1 game is tough. But Tastyspleen DM is pretty much always busy with at least 2 people. Could be worse.

Your response was very hypocritical. People usually travel and travel to places far away, often alone (without wives, girlfriends or parents, even without a friend) at the weekends. Usually when they get a break from their jobs or ask for a break in advance. And why should not a trip to Quakecon be considered leisure?

I understood it perfectly. In your opinion, QuakeCon sucked because the who's who of Quake2 players weren't there to hang out with you, and thus you feel like nobody gives a damn about the game. That would be wrong though. The players you named probably DO give a fuck about Quake2, they just don't give a fuck about QuakeCon. If you think ALL of the Quake games are great, fine, go, haul your ass to the QuakeCon and pay several hundred dollars (gas/plane tix, food, lodging, etc) for the privilege to play the same games that you do at home for considerably less. Just my opinion, but that sounds like a poor way for someone to spend their time and money.

Creamy did a little LAN party thing where a bunch of his friends came over to his house and played, and he invited ANYONE ELSE to join in as well. Were you there? Probably not. Point is,... people still give a fuck about Q2, and anyone can organize some FFA or team games if they really want to.

If you wanna interpret my post as being pessimistic and shitting all over Quake2... don't. I'm simply calling QuakeCon a fuckin' pointless circle jerk. But if you like Q2, keep playing. Nobody needs a fuckin' QuakeCon to make this game fun to play.

Quakecon is just a fun way to have a giant LAN party with anyone of all walks of life.  Not sure what the issue would be regarding it... it's quite fun and a good break from reality.  It's not just all about games... it's about meeting up with people you've played with in-game, having some good times, watching top competitors play in multiple games, and yeah... playing some games too.  :>

The biggest issue with this year's Quakecon is that the BYOC area was filled the day registration opened, which screwed a lot of people out of their chance to play in the tournament.  I remember haunted and adren were posting about showing up but without a BYOC, there's little point...  I mean, I guess you could play from upstairs in your room to warm up, then go down for the matches later on.  Meh.

Even with all its faults, Quakecon is still great fun and worth coming to at least once.  There's nothing else quite like it.
