CTF maps messed up (Jacquio overrides are awful)

Not sure if this is just a joke, but the main ctf maps were fine until we jumped on tonight and found Jacquio's overrides on classic maps (as2m7, lush and others).  Weapons all over the place and totally screwed the maps.  This is on both ctf and ctf-match servers.

Quadz can you please put the old weapon placements back?  Not sure if Jacquio msg'd you and said that we'd enjoy them but trust me, we do NOT.  I know h0ps msg'd you about putting some more maps up, and I'll upload the main maps we love to this thread tonight (the original ones without any of Jacquio's shit all over them).

Personally I love Jacquio's overrides. Red Armors in hiding places, good weapons and yellow armors everywhere, etc. He's ahead of his time.

Wasn't on purpose. It's actually related to this:

I know h0ps msg'd you about putting some more maps up, and I'll upload the main maps we love to this thread tonight (the original ones without any of Jacquio's shit all over them).

So he did indeed upload maps to our FTP server, and while running scripts to sync them to the game servers, I noticed one of the scripts to sync to the CTF folder was broken.

When I fixed the script, a whole lot of stuff that had been uploaded years ago, finally made it to the CTF folder:

Hey quadz.  Actually if those are the maps that you will be adding to both ctf and ctf-match, those are all the ones I can think of actually.  You even have the wtf maps (AWESOME).

I've played ctf for damn near 15 years, and I can tell you for sure that the overrides are all Golgo's bullshit, because at ACME there were never any overrides, the original version of maps were fine and the most played consistently.  The different versions of maps are cool (like -a and -b versions) and we played them too, but there were never any overrides.  The original weapon placements were truly the best... plus at this point, learning where new weapons are would be hell on earth for any of us to try and remember... lol.

I'm glad I didn't upload last night.  Those beers did me in.   ;)

AHAHAH love the sarcasm there. quite entertaining but i assure the ctf community,  it's there for the betterment of competetive ctf lol. the layout structure was a bit unfair. so i fixed it up. classic diehards will vehemently disagree!

i can give a complete armor ratio breakdown upon request. involving the number of armors and the spawning of armors on the map. e.g lush 2 jacket armors spawn every 20 seconds for a grand total of 150 armor per minute with the additional default armors that are in it's original place. minus 1 mega power of 100 every 60 seconds or when it wears off. so 50 additional light armor was added to the map. not a big difference just more armor for teams to pickup and not be completely naked.

The original weapon placements were truly the best... plus at this point, learning where new weapons are would be hell on earth for any of us to try and remember... lol.

apparently you have alzeimers lol. there's only 4 main weapons in CTF. chaingun, railgun, rocket launcher and super shotgun. the others are there for flavor and not available in every map in classic ctf. how much is there to remember? take the alteration to lfctf4 send in the clones. the weapons are centered in the middle are chainguns and rocket launchers. the railgun is still in it's proper place. otherwise you would have to spawn furthest upon death  go back in the other direction to find a good weapon and it set you back the whole game.

there are many different aspects to it, however these settings were more geared for the lithctf mod. so putting in threewave ctf would be a little different. but thanks for informing quadz of my only contribution to tasty in the form of map overrides to change them. you could have just played them since acme has all the other ones.it's petty but i don't play ctf anymore. so who cares.

ACME is offline, you moron.  Permanently.  This is the main place we're going to be able to play at, so it's important to let the admin know what people enjoy playing.  With your overrides on the maps, we all went to play ra2 last Sunday.  No one would even join up.  What does that tell you?

Anyway, no big deal about it.  You should come play sometime.  CTF nights are Sundays, usually with ra2 later in the evening.

how can it be possible? is worm still there? i got to check the forum. ACME ran it's course for a long time running. legendary for staying up that long.  it's unfortunate, however it gives me an opportunity to put up my lith CTF server. i will attempt to carry the scepter and try to leave where it left off for a time

So yeah, WORM gave up on it and YOWZA pulled funding it.  Was only a matter of time after that happened.  Officially went dark Febuary 2017.

He's trolling, but he's also got a point. Playing a first person shooter using your home PC as a server is not the way to go about it. Most people don't want to play on a server with a ping higher than 100, especially when they have other better options. If you want a CTF server that'll see regular traffic, you're gonna have to rent one somewhere, or upgrade the living shit out of your home internet speed, probably with something like fiber optic. And renting a server would probably be cheaper.

I remember back when me, [BTF]Deathstalker, [BTF]Gator, and a few others had a Nascar 2003 racing league going that was running from a server Deathstalker had set up at his house through his home internet. He was located in Texas, so everybody had a decent chance at a reasonable ping. However, it was his home internet connection, which was probably higher speed than a lot of other peoples internet connections (especially MY dirt cheap and horribly slow up/down rate), but it was still not ideal. I think most of us were getting pings around the 110 to 140 range, and it made the other players cars kinda jitter all around as they moved, which is pretty bad in a racing simulation where drafting is essential and passing is a difficult art that takes skill and surgical precision sometimes. Many times you're drafting someone down a straight and you dive to the inside before the turn comes up hoping to get your front bumper along side them as you enter the turn so you can force them to take a higher line and successfully pass them before the exit of the turn. But when BOTH cars are jittering side to side, forwards and backwards, all over the damn place, it can be tricky to guess where their car ACTUALLY is, and many times you end up guessing wrong, or you stay on the throttle too long entering the turn and it slides you up INTO the other person. We had LOTS AND LOTS of wrecks and caution flags in that league, and probably half of them wouldn't have happened had we been playing on a server with a higher speed high bandwidth connection like what the TS servers use.

He's trolling, but he's also got a point. Playing a first person shooter using your home PC as a server is not the way to go about it. Most people don't want to play on a server with a ping higher than 100, especially when they have other better options. If you want a CTF server that'll see regular traffic, you're gonna have to rent one somewhere, or upgrade the living shit out of your home internet speed, probably with something like fiber optic. And renting a server would probably be cheaper.


 We had LOTS AND LOTS of wrecks and caution flags in that league, and probably half of them wouldn't have happened had we been playing on a server with a higher speed high bandwidth connection like what the TS servers use.


well, i put up a rented dedicated server for a year and nobody went to it. i had that home server up for a long time but nobody noticed that i used an actual service. probably because i used 8 player slots on my home server and also used it on my dedicated. so yea, it can easily be confusing. when you go to q2servers, the site has the plug icon next to it. if it's a listen server, (which mine essentially was for a long time). it's hard to tell the difference. nobody gave it a chance anyways but that's how it is. just a game anyways.

Lol yea, i still got the 1990's DSL, with a slightly higher speed but yea fiber optic would be the way to go if you wanted to seriously host any game nowadays. even an old game like quake.  i probably didn't want to spend the money $/or i was too stubborn to admit that the game just couldn't handle the 1998 craze of a listen server. mind you i have neglected for years that i never played on a listen server when i played in clans, yet i still didn't realize that fact.
