I've seen several folks playing on some kinda "mara-coop" server in the independent zone, and I tried connecting to it. It downloaded some kinda pak0.pak and a bunch of other shit, but then when it went to connect me, the console said "|iR|Focalor joined the game", but then the console just stuck right there on a black screen, it didn't load me into the map or anything else. When I went to go shut the game down and try again, I noticed my custom menu was all funky as if there was a conflict with some other kinda pak resizing my personal paks menu banner images. What's the deal here?

Mara-coop uses a different folder called "coop", thats why you had to download pak0 and maps you already have!

It works normal for me, dont know what can be. Your other paks, if they are called pak1, pak2, etc, they should run over that pak0.

ive been there everydays and its the first time ive seen something like that.

Actually, that pak0 from the coop folder is overwriting my custom ones in the baseq2 folder. When I go to the tastyspleen coop server, my weapon icons and menu banners are all scrunched down like it does whenever you fuck up and don't include a pcx of that custom image in the same dimensions.

Shouldn't be possible. (Local Q2 client should prevent this.)

Our coop servers run out of the "coop" folder as well.

Well that's the thing, upon joining the mara-coop server, it downloaded a pak0 to the coop folder, and somehow the pcx's in that new pak0 are making my png's for my weapon icons and mainmenu banners in my custom "pak7" located in baseq2 become resized. The PNG's are still displaying though, because I guess PNG's take priority over any duplicate pcx's.

This is what happens on the Tastyspleen coop server whenever that pak0 that was downloaded from the mara-coop server is left inside the coop folder. Notice how shrunken the shotgun icon looks:

This is what it looks like when I move that pak0 from the coop folder to the desktop. Looks fine.

This only happens on the coop server though. If I connect to vanilla, that pak0 in coop obviously isn't getting looking at, thus no change.

The pak0 is actually required unfortunately because R1Q2 has a download bug with HTTP downloading. So this pak0 contains some assets that will not download properly because of some maps that have bad backslashes for textures, and other assets.

What engine are you using? There is a folder in the pak called pics/ which does have some updated m_main_xxx.pcx files, i could probably remove them and you can try downloading a new pak.

Do you have PakExplorer? If you can narrow down what specific files are conflicting I can look into seeing if it's safe to delete them and still work around the R1Q2 HTTP DL bug.

The inability to get into the server the other day was a legitimate issue with WallFly occasionally causing some sort of weird SZ_GetSpace overflow that requires a restart of the server. Usually happens after long uptimes and I haven't been able to specifically narrow down why that occurs.

Otherwise, you should be able to get into the server now just fine, minus the botched icons. Some of those icons are required though, like for the xatrix, rogue and zaero weapons. So they'll probably be small and fucked up if you're using a bunch of custom assets and custom HUDs, etc. Stuff I don't typically support.

Nah, don't even sweat it. It's not game breaking, just odd. I'm probably about the only one that would be experiencing such things anyway, I don't imagine too many other people use non-square-sized weapon icons. 9 or 10 years ago when I went through a ton of player paks posted all over the web and pulled things out of them to post in my pak item archive, most of them were all square sized icons.

And the award for most LOL-worthy map goes to... whoever did the "custom-skyscraper" coop on mara's server. I only got to the 2nd map. The first one was some suburban house, some shit reminiscent of Redneck Rampage, and totally not meant for Q2. There was just shitloads of monsters to kill. The 2nd map though... apparently there's a "story line" to this coop, because that was the first time I've ever seen a... cutscene with dialogue... of sorts... in quake2. Apparently id's John Whatshisface fell and bumped his head, cuz he's in bed with an IV sticking in him and talking like he just swallowed a near lethal dose of peyote.

So bad it's funny.

I'm pleased to announce that after a long time I was able to debug the teleport/summon commands occasionally giving you distorted/tilted viewangles. Have fun everyone and thanks for everyone who continues to play this server. A lot of small bugs have been fixed since it's introduction and we went months without a crash.

This happens at around 12:45am Eastern, 4/16/2021 if you check your server logs.

Some guy using the alias "tiger]usa[" is disrupting/trolling on your server. Was there for about 30 minutes or so with SergeantPana007 having a nice time playing some vanilla coop. SgtPana left, was just me, "tiger" comes in and starts doing his routine consisting of following me around and shooting me all over the place with a shotgun just to be a disruptive asshole. I tell him I'm recording it in hopes that he'll come to his senses and stop, he doesn't. Instead he begins to do the OTHER troll routine where they keep doing 180 spins and hitting the map change door, so having the lower ping, I begin doing it to him for about 5 minutes hoping he'll get tired and leave. He doesn't.

If you'd like to ban us BOTH for this behavior, I'll happily accept that as a solution, but I'd certainly prefer it if you just banned HIM. Logs will prove he definitely started it and I'm telling the truth. And you don't see him here posting about it. The guilty ones never do.
