WIP Quake 2 singleplayer unit (2/3 done!) :3

Greetings.  :welcome:

This is my first singleplayer map unit for Quake 2. :yessign:

It is not done yet, I just need to finish the last map, but it is nearly there. However, this is taking time and I have so little time for this, so please be patient if you can. :bigcry:

On the second map once I enter the control room, I get this error before the map crashes on me:

I added a null file named "rockfly.wav" in baseq2/sounds/weapons to bypass that error.

I made it to the door that requires the security pass, which looks like the end of your SP campaign so far. I don't have much feedback to give since I never played much SP for Quake 2. I thought your maps were pretty good though. Good geometry and map flow, decent enemy and weapon layout, and interesting traps. I have no feedback for improvements so far.

Is this wav file a custom file?

It's not custom unless overridden by either a map entity or a distributed file. rockfly.wav is in pak0.pak, from the original game distribution and it's found in sound/weapons/rockfly.wav and is precached in the normal game code. Could Q2pro be at fault here?

I tried to download the map but my browser wants to display it instead of downloading it and I didn't try to find a way around that.

Edit: I got Firefox to download it. Checking it out in various modes.

There is no reference to rockfly.wav in that map when I inspected the text in the browser.

Perhaps this is a unique problem with the Steam version of pak01. I don't remember seeing this problem in SP when I using the pak01 file from IDsoftware's digital download store.

Wow, you are amazing for finding out this issue I have been thinking so hard about. I never knew there were such differences in the pak-files.

I will try to make a version without the Iron Maidens (since apparently their RLs need that sound), but I don't know if something will go wrong if the player returns to that map later with a rocket launcher (as one of the secrets is dependent on a rocket jump).
