I remember that Railwolf had told me the ip addresses before, but it's nice to see a list for these servers.

I feel these servers are more symbolic than anything. There is no point playing vanilla Q3 when you can play Quakelive on Steam which has better graphics, improved gameplay, has most of the same modes, and most importantly, superior netcode.

No. QL was a project for idSoftware to see if they could make a web browser free and make money via ads. The project completely failed and eventually idSoftware abandoned the project.

Technically no, the game was for free on Steam if you linked your Steam account to your QL account. I didn't pay anything to get QL steam. And the reason why it is $10 on Steam is because you get full access to the game now instead of being forced to get a premium or pro annual subscription to get such access.

If you like vQ3 gameplay, you should be playing QL because the gameplay changes are better. The weapon damage has been balanced with consideration of how much better people's PC hardware and peripherals and internet connection are. If you think playing in 1v1 or clan arena against a player who can hit 50% with lg when lg does 8/8/8 damage, you are crazy and are going to get curbstomped.

The second reason why you should play QL instead is because it has better netcode. Up to 80ms, you can play that game online competitively. vQ3 netcode is horrible. Even at 30ms the game felt terrible and is why we saw mods like OSP and CPMA improve the game's netcode.

And if you think that Q3 is better game, then why do people who play Q3 play QL instead? The only people who play Q3 these days are CPM or instagib players (who are playing on an illegal copy of Q3).

I haven't played QL since it became possible to host dedicated servers.

Do you think there would be any benefit to QL enthusiasts if tastyspleen were to host some QL servers?

For example, are there any interesting configurations we might run that are hard to find?

(Are QL servers pretty generic? As in, players can vote in whatever game mode or map they want? Or is it up to the server owner to figure out a config that players enjoy?)

if there was instaGib +hook in quakelive. instaGib CTF +hook and even normal CTF with grapple I would go out of my way to try to like quakelive.

i did not find anything like that when i tried.

I was surprised not even normal ctf had grapple..

I think that a TS ffa server with traditional settings (e.g. no weapon loadouts) sounds kind of interesting to me, although I think such a server's maplist would have to be more carefully selected since the quality of ID's stock maps in Q3 are much worst than Q2's IMO.

There might be some players who would enjoy a duel server also, like those who play in Jehar's QL Koth, although I don't know if those players are still around.

I think the server configurations are generic and the uniqueness comes from the "factories" that you set.

Yes, QL servers are flexible as you think, from what I read. You can vote up the game mode and map that you want, and you can also customize the variables in the game mode, like make instagib FFA with plasma gun only or something.

Is there any chance you guys consider setting up a deathmatch server for SiN and Blood 2?

SiN is a 1998 game that uses the engine id tech (Quake2) and Blood 2 uses the LightTech engine (such as Alien vs Predator and No Ones Lives Forever).

SiN was cool. I remember first playing the demo version of it that came on one of those PC games magazine supplemental CD's. It was so much fun that I ended up actually going out and buying a full copy of the game, which I almost NEVER did after playing one of those PC games CD demos. Usually the games on the demo CDs were shitty cheapo games or some kinda lame ass RPG style thing, but every once in a blue moon they'd have a decent shooter demo.

I never got around to playing Blood 2. From what I remember, I kinda WANTED to, but the game was not nearly as widely available as Blood 1. I could never find a copy of the game in a store at the same time that I had any cash in-pocket to buy it with. I don't think I ever had the FULL version of Blood 1 either, I think I had/have the shareware disc, which is just the first episode of the 3 or 4 in the full version. I do remember that even the shareware disc included a bonus music video of Type O Negative's "Love You To Death" from the October Rust album. Cool shit.

If someone puts up a SiN server, I'll certainly dust off my old CD and install it and give it a go. I might could even somehow upload the game for my own personal safekeeping where others who don't have the game might "accidentally (wink wink)" stumble upon it. Or if that's too taboo, then perhaps being a Q2 format game, maybe the demo version will allow full multiplayer usage like Quake2's demo. If a SiN demo isn't available online, I might still have that old CD with the free demo on it.
