Getting into competitive Quake 2

Yoooo,
Ive been watching vods from the previous edl tournaments the past few months and its got my interest. And so I want to know if there's any program you need for q2 like how q3 has promode and q1 has quakeworld? And also is there any good bot programs from practicing with? And also just other things in general like map pools and where to get better huds and bright models and other stuff like that? (btw I live in Australia so I dont even know there's any Aussie q2 communities)

It is a little late for competitive Q2, at least in the US.  You may want to just go play on the tourney servers to get some action.
