Spoiler Alert!
Spoiler Alert!!
Movie Review!
Spoiler Alert!!
Spoiler Alert!
Saw this movie Thursday night. I left the film filled with an alien feeling... I didn't know how to rate it.
I was hit with too many thoughts and comparisons. Problem is, there is so much superman, batman, justice league content in existence, that balancing what was just presented vs the entire history of dc material, and specifically my favorite storylines and character strengths, was impossible.
For example, I am a fan that believes superman is extremely powerful, and by extreme, i mean able to lift quintillion pounds, fly at the speed of light, and basically own everyone and everything.
To see superman in a position where some kryptonite gas completely incapacitates him is difficult. To see him completely over powered by doomsday is also difficult.
I am totally against the idea that superman has to be depowered in order to for people to relate to him better.
Batman's logic for deciding against killing superman was also suspect. Batman completely changes face just because they both shared a mother with the same name of martha. The logic is baffling. I can suspend reality, but wow.
Lex luthor will not be memorable. This incarnation / interpretation of lex was bad. Just a tad under average. This is not a genius or a madman, just a whining dervish. lmfao.....
Lois / Superman's love story was good, uplifting the movie at times. The reincarnated Alfred, played by Simon of Die hard with a vengeance, was neat.
The final battle of the movie missed its mark though, with the death of superman. Batman and Wonderwoman never really developed a bond with superman, they just dragged his body from the rubble and stood there like noobs. For the record, WonderWoman is not superior to Superman, and this movie failed at giving Superman proper Respect with his abilities.
Anyway, after some thought, the only real way to rate this movie honestly is to suspend and forget any and everything we have ever known about any of these characters. That is how the story was writen and how the studios decided to run this. This movie / dawn of a series is supposed to be completely new, a complete retelling and new take on all the dc characters. That is why the movie lasted 2.5 hours, why batman's story was retold and why some parts just fell flat. Things that we associated with these legendary characters do not hold true, no matter how bad I want my version of superman to hit the screen. This is difficult to accept, and yet I do so remaining extremely annoyed.
If i were to suspend any and all comic knowledge, any and all history of the christopher reeve movies, any and all knowledge of the animated stories, and just relied on the past 2 movies, I would rate the movie as a 7.3 / 10. Far from perfect, but action packed. The movie makes sense, it has a story, but there is much that was left untold or hurried.
In retrospect, It took almost 20 yrs from michael keaton's batman to christian bale's. There were many interpretations and follies in between, from arnold's mr freeze to george clooney. Time is on our side, one day they'll get it right, and until then, ill still take this movie over nothing anyday.
I still think christopher reeve's superman in superman 2 was the best ever, though smallville's interpretation ranks very very high as wel for me. Ben affleck is still junk, even if his batman was good.

So it sucked? Big shock there. (sarcasm)
I just don't "get" superhero movies. Some of them start off watchable, but then inevitably, someones gotta put on some ridiculous skin tight costume and a luchador mask, and then I go, "This is fucking retarded." Superhero movies just ask too much of me in the way of how much I have to suspend my disbelief. Jean Claude Van Damme movies were pretty fucking ridiculous. Hard Target, for example. That would NEVER happen in real life. And yet everything that happened in that movie is still 1000% more plausible than everything that happens in superhero movies. A really shitty Belgian actor playing a Cajun? That's pretty retarded. But not as retarded as a decent accomplished actor like Christian Bale debasing himself by dressing up in a skin tight bodysuit with pointy bat ears.

LOL you watched Van Damme movies?
Anyway, I think the movie was already doomed from the planning stage when they decided to have Zacky on its helm. They should had gotten Nolan at all cost. Also Christian Bale would be better off as the Batman since his portrayal of batman is still hard to forget amongst moviegoers.
PS. Most plausible is 2d dresses himself up in latex and pretends to be catwoman

LOL you watched Van Damme movies?
Hell yeah. Some of them are cult classics now. Bloodsport, which was pretty shitty, but it's a classic. It features Bolo Yeung in one of his most memorable roles ever. And any movie with him is automatically a martial arts classic. And Hard Target was a John Woo movie. It was crappy, but still cool. Kinda like Road House. Road House was cheesy and bad, but it's still good for some reason. They sometimes do midnight showings of it at the old Clermont theater in NE Atlanta where they usually run shit like Rocky Horror and other big cult flicks.
All JCVD's older ones up until that Double Team one he did with fucking Denis Rodman, I kinda liked. Steven Segal too. Any of his old ones are cool. HE HIMSELF is a fucking puke.
I don't expect anyone to understand my mindset on it. I grew up watching these movies, used to rent 5 and 10 of these action movies at a time every weekend through middle school and high school. Probably came close to seeing every last action movie that my local Blockbuster and Hollywood Video had on the shelves. They were like 1 dollar each for 5 days. All on VHS too, remember that shit? Ah the good ole days.

Spoiler alerts...
In case you dum noobs havent figured that out by now...
As the days have past, I think I have come to appreciate and like the way the movie was made. It is different than what we've seen in the past. and as I read more articles and reviews, new things that i had missed continue to surface.
Things like Jimmy Olsen was the photographer who was killed in Africa. Things like, Batman was not having a dream, but a vision of the flash coming back in time to warn him of the future. All along I had not really understood this scene of flying monkies and superman cops, and i guess it was really a future of Darkseid's reign. And this raises even more questions...... is superman under darkseids control? Did superman flip on mankind, or did his death spawn a new man?
Crazy shit.
In addition, 1 reviewer pointed out that we may be in a world of infinite crisis and a multiverse.... DC could do a reset just like Xmen- Days of Future Past!
I like this..this is new...this is good.
