q2 starter jittery

I had to do a fresh install of windows, i downloaded the quake 2 starter, and both q2pro and r1q2 don't run properly. I have installed all updated drivers for motherboard and graphics card. In game i get this weird frame jitter. Any ideas how to fix this? I have vsync forced off on my card

If you have an NVIDIA GPU, make sure the "Threaded Optimization" is turned off for quake2.exe, r1q2.exe, q2pro.exe, etc.

The setting is in the NVIDIA control panel, Manage 3D settings, Program Settings

update on this issue..I managed to fix it by setting q2 video settings to match my desktop resolution. bit of a pain but for some reason if i set q2 to a different resolution than my desktop i get the jitters which has never been an issue before
