At looooooooooooong last, my version 10 pak is FINALLY posted and available for download. A *LOT* of hours of work went into this one. Too many hours, for fuck's sake. Seriously. This one features lots of brand spanking new custom models, some old ones, and several stock models that I completely re-did the skin mapping and textures for to make them into high resolution skinned models. All new menus, icons, and all the fixin's like usual. Probably my best looking overall pak to date. I finally kinda-sorta know what I'm doing with PhotoShop, so this one looks a helluva lot less crude and shitty than the earlier versions I made.

Enjoy. Lemme know what you think or if you might have any requests for custom beer health pack skins that you'd like me to make to swap out for the ones included with the model in the pak. Can't promise anything, but I'll give it a shot.

NOTICE:

I didn't entirely test this pak as thoroughly as I should have before slapping it up online.
A few of the skins on the weapon models that player models carry around are completely screwed. The three that I noticed were the player SSG model skin, the player RL model skin, and the player RG model skin, but it's probably also doing it with the SG skin as well.

I think the problem is that the carry-able weapon models use the same skin textures as the weapon pickup models. The ones that are displaying properly are all reading the skin for the carry-able weapon from pak0.pak. All the skins for the hi-res weapons I've used before are named "skin_new", whilst the old stock model skins are named "skin", which is why when using the hi-res models, the low res stock carry-able models all still use the old skin name to reference the texture while the hi-res pickup model uses another name from the pak7 overwriting pak0. Any-damn-way...

I guess that's probably the problem. I'm gonna have to go back and redo those 4 weapon models to reference a skin of a different name and then also change the skin names, then reupload the pak. Not gonna do it right now though. Some other time. I'll post a message here when I do for anyone who needs the updated fixed version.

UPDATE:

Okie dokie, had a few fuck-ups in this pak. Finally got around to fixing it. If you played with this pak up til this point, you might've noticed that the skins on some of the guns that the player models carry around were fucked up looking. Specifically, it was the super shotgun, rocket launcher, railgun, and also the hand grenades. Went back and renamed the skins then relinked the renamed skins to the models. Anyway, long story short, it's fixed. All good now. All the player model weapons should look okay now.

So if you downloaded this pak for use, you might wanna toss out the copy you're using now and redownload it.

Player models require animations. I don't do animations. Never learned how, and judging from how much of a pain in the ass it was doing static models, I don't think I wanna learn. I don't plan on doing any more paks for Quake2 in the future either. I still play Q2 on the servers every once in a while, but I've got too many other things going on to spend all the hours on making quirky paks like I used to.

Looks dope. Would you mind if I made this Pak an optional download of my Mac and Linux Quake2 installer?

It would involve mirroring the pak in my rsync repository, and then adding a few lines of code to prompt people if they wish to install it. No effort on your part, of course :)

Well... recent development. For years, I've had several hi-res weapon, item, and object models in my paks. From what one person told me about them years ago, these models were somewhat "taboo" to post because they were part of some mod or add-on that was eventually squashed by Id for copyright reasons. (You've been around long enough, you're probably already familiar with the story too.) However, I'd seen several other places posting said hi-res model pak and several other paks featuring modified and unmodified versions of the same models. So I said to myself, "If everyone's doing it, it's less wrong for me to do it." Flawed logic, totally, but whatever.

Anyway, I flew under the radar with it for years until a few weeks ago when I was contacted via email by Phoenix from Wirehead Studios who is developing the Q3 Generations Arena project, who actually MADE the models in question. He had every right to tell me to take it down, and maybe even sue me for copyright shit, I dunno. But he didn't, he was really cool about it. He kinda liked what I did with the textures for some of them, and instead instructed me to add a disclaimer to the main menu page for my pak files.

So, I'm not sure if it would be cool for you to use this pak in some other thing. The only places I posted the disclaimer was on the main menu page for the pak files and on the first page of the models download section of my pak item archive. I didn't re-upload the paks with updated readme files including anything about special permissions for the models either. So I'm assuming you'd probably want to contact Phoenix from Wirehead Studios before doing it. I personally don't have a problem with anyone posting one of my paks or using anything from any of them for any purpose at all. So just to be safe, either hunt around on the Wirehead Studios site for his email address, or PM me and I can message it to you.

Ah, right on. Yes, I'm very familiar with that story, and I know Phoenix and Tabun (WireHead artist who made the "QForcer" player model, which is the default in Quetoo). Extremely talented team!

That's no problem at all. My installer has a prompt system to display license, copyright, readme, etc. I can fetch and display Phoenix's message, and yours, and prompt folks to accept / acknowledge both before installing. Does that sound copacetic?

I dunno, I suppose. I still think it would be a good idea for you to contact Phoenix personally and ask him before proceeding. In the first email he sent me, the way he originally worded the disclaimer for me to post (before I kinda mixed and matched portions of what he said) kinda leads me to believe that he may have been trying cover his own ass with Id moreso than covering me with Wirehead. So I may have "permission" from him to post the stuff on my page, but I'm still not 100% clear if it makes me safe from ALL parties, know what I mean?
