What do you mean by linux client? Are you on windows or linux? As a former linux user playing q2 on it for just over a year, i can tell you anticheat will not work in linux, regardless if you have q2 natively installed or playing it through wine.

i normally use linux and use a linux quake2 client when connecting to a server. Im aware that anticheat wont work on it. My question was is there going to be a problem with me playing on servers with a linux client when anticheat wont work.

No there shouldnt be any issues unless somoene suspects you are cheating in some way and produces a demo to admin. That message about not using anticheat is automatic for anyone who joins a server who is not using it. Sort of like an encouragment to do so but its not required, unless of course you are forced anticheat for suspected fowl play

May i ask if you do have it installed natively or are u running it through wine? IMO wine is shit for gaming, so its best to install q2pro natively for best results. If you don't know how to do it i could find my instruction jdolan gave me and help you install it natively if you like on irc

I thought about wine but decided to try the yamagi quake client. It seems to work fine, nice and snappy on the input, which i have heard is not the case with wine.
The yamagi is the only 64 bit quake2 linux client out there afaik.

That's not true -- any client you compile yourself these days would yield a 64 binary. But Yamagi is indeed a great pre-compiled, turn-key client. And while it doesn't have any of the bells and whistles that AprQ2 or Q2Pro have, it's very stable and feels just like playing Quake2 in 1998.
