Early today i demo'ed a player using invisibile skin. Very obvious and all he did was run get bfg and bfg em.

It's a server bug, sorry.

If they die, or the map changes, they'll become visible again.

Just out of curiousity and probably not entirely on topic, but wouldn't it be better to run the osp or lithiumII mod on the servers to avoid bugs like this or am I missing something? I know that for instance lithium can be configured in a lot of ways and it's certainly possible to set it up like a standard FFA server, including the standard physics and all. Plus it has features like player ID and in-eyes-cam which would make the recording of demos more useful.

Well, i demoed for part of 1 map, but i followed him on another and he was always invisable, after new maps and still after being killed. And Panjoo as far as DM and lithiumII, i dont think the settings are quite the same. Im a lithium player, and i dont think 2x jumping and strafe jumping work the well in the lith mod, i could be wrong tho.

We're running OSP on railz now - i dunno why it's crashing 5x a day, since the tourney servers also run OSP and are pretty stable. But OSP is a closed source mod, so ... I really want as little to do with it as possible.

Apart from the invisibility bug, the mod we use on vanilla and mutant, although simplistic (no high scores, etc.), is very stable, and has some entity remapping stuff I don't want to give up.

Hmmm... In that case, you might want to check your baseq2/players directory for a file called "detector". As I recall it's a player model that's just this little tiny speck of a triangle, almost invisible. If you have it, just delete it.

I'm also a lithium player:) but I know for a fact that you can configure a lith server so it's exactly the same as any other Dm server, all you'd have to do is disable runes and hook and decrease the aircontrol setting.

yea you can change the airaccelerate to match dm, just not sure what controls the double jumps and such, have never been able to 2x jump on any lith server....

It's all in the sv_airaccelerate setting, see attached demo. (I just started a lith server and disabled accelerate.)
But without this setting you don't have any control while speedjumping so that's probably why the lith servers use aircontrol:)

Just a note to the suggestion to delete the 'detector' folder in baseq2\players. If you do that, what happens the net time you connect? It starts to download the skin again. So....just leave the folder there, copy some legit skin files into the same folder ( I use the Cow model/skin) and just rename the 'cow' files to the appropiate 'detector' file. Then delete the dtector files. No more dl-ing and every detector player looks like a cow (or whatever).

so it doesnt download at all

Ya but turning off all skins means no new skins will be seen. I like to see players in the skin they're using which makes for variety. Otherwise its nothing but Grunts. Just changing the files solves the problem completely and actually makes them more visible if you use the Cow skin or maybe some bright skin. Which is exactly the opposite to what the 'cheater' wanted.

You can turn off skin downloading and just download some skins you like.

agreed, it takes a long time to download skins and stuff
not to mention everyone looks all crazy and sound weird with there new stuff
