Probably gonna be a while before anyone gets to see it though. Going through and revamping basically ALL of the models, either making brand new ones or completely remapping the stock ones with new/better layouts to use larger texture images for better resolution. Takes shitloads of time. Currently procrastinating about remapping the rebreather model because it's gonna be a pain in the ass to both remap it AND create a brand new skin for it that won't look like nine miles of dogshit. :yuck:

Your pak looks okay. Maybe people who want to use that pak should use a different sky texture, however.

Like I said, it's probably gonna be a while before I'm done with it. I'm thinking maybe two months at the earliest. Maybe less, maybe more, I can't begin to say for sure. Just depends on how far I wanna go with the models.

So far the only, uh..."stock"... models I've done have been the bandolier and power shield. I'm confident I could've made brand new different looking models for them, but I was afraid that if I got started modeling something, I'd go too crazy again with triangle count and end up with something that would be a total bitch to skin map. So I figured that since the hi-res weapon and item pak that's floating around is incomplete, I'd try to make things to kinda round it out in case someone (me included) wanted to take those items out of my pak and complete a hi-res model pak. Thing is, again, I didn't wanna go crazy with the triangle count, so I just used the stock wireframe models for the power shield and bandolier and then just remapped the skin to a 256x256 pcx so I could use a 1024x1024 png for the actual skin. I took a few small artistic liberties with them (using more shells on the front of the bandolier, colored brushed metal textures for metal parts, woven hemp/tweed texture for the straps and belts), but for the most part, they look like identical updated versions of the originals.

Problem I'm having at the moment is the rebreather model. Like the power shield, it's poorly made in places with tiny (and probably unnecessary) triangles in spots that are impossible to select individually with the skin tool because they're overlapped by something else I guess. I could just say fuck it and hammer through it and remap the skin as is, but I'm thinking probably the better option would be to modify it to remove some of these tiny overlapping triangles it seems to have. Hopefully the end result won't be something skewed to hell with incurable holes in it like the Slayer quad I did.

I know almost nothing about your Q2W stuff though. Is it some kinda commercial thing or just a fun for-free project? What kinda model format is it using? Sounds interesting, wouldn't mind having experience doing something for an actual GAME rather than just half-assing stuff for a crazy add-on/mod to an existing game.

Hehe. Q2W is and will always be 100% free and open source. It's goal is to borrow some of the best aspects of the Quake series and meld them into a game that is, while better in many regards, still undeniably Quake2. We should chat sometime when your pak is complete, if you're still looking to work on that kind of stuff.
