So i was reading google news, and this article screamed at me to click and read it. So i get through it, and this idiot pilot swallowed a balloon full of cocaine so he could smuggle it lol. But this got me wondering why the hell he would swallow a balloon? Wouldn't stomach acid eat through a balloon? Then this got me wondering, what could you actually eat that would survive your stomach acid but still protect a bag of drugs or what not. Any ideas? I think this question is perfect for ex, since he is the drug and alcohol guru. Interesting article though

Drug runners have been doing this for a long ass time, and no, the stomach acid doesn't eat through, although, there have been countless incidents where people have died etc after swallowing a dozen balloons of coke and one of them burst/had a hole in em/etc.  This is one of the reasons they wanted to put in the xray machines at the airports cuz people swallow em, get on and then once they get to their destination, they shit em out.  You're a lil behind there 2d

Sometimes dumbasses use shitty cheap balloons and overstuff them with drugs so that's how they burst inside someone.  As Rick said, using the right method you should have no problem.  Lots of people like swallowing condoms stuffed with them as they can stretch easily with minimal risk of tearing - Rick can tell you lots about condom swallowing.  :>

Well, I think it's just basic chemistry. Certain things only react with specific substances. And a balloon is nowhere near similar to the normal things that go into your stomach, so it makes sense. I read up a little on this and stomach acid is composed of hydrochloric acid. Then I saw this quote on some US government website,

Hydrochloric acid should never be transported in other than a plastic
coated glass container, accurately labeled, and properly stored within
the vehicle to prevent shifting, spillage, or breakage.

So, a balloon will keep the drugs safe it looks like. I think I could never do cocaine, heroine, or meth because I would just be wondering the whole time who's bowels it went through to get to me.

It depends on what type of plastic it is. It won't eat through PVC, but I think there are other types of plastic that it will eat through. It won't eat through plain glass without plastic on it either. (hydroFLOURIC acid, on the other hand, WILL melt through glass) The problem is that hydrochloric acid reacts dangerously with certain things, and while hydrochloric acid isn't as fatally dangerous on it's own as other types of acid (like hydroflouric acid), it can become highly dangerous if it comes into contact with any kind of oxidizing compound. If a glass container of it gets broken in transport and comes into contact with something like bleach or hydrogen peroxide, it can react to produce poisonous chlorine gas.

As for balloons, most balloons are made out of latex rubber. Hydrochloric acid will corrode through it if it's concentrated high enough and exposed to it long enough.

Long story short, you're risking your life putting drug balloons down your throat. If they don't open and spill out causing you to overdose, there's a plethora of other serious medical problems that could occur from it.
