King of the Hill Ordering

If king of the hill is ordered by skill, from newb to best, why does the higher seeded person get to choose the map? Seems like this was not thought out properly.

To keep it competitive, wouldn't you want the lower seed challenger to be able to pick the map? If someone is starting from the bottom, and wins a match, they should keep the right to call the next map vs the higher seeded opponent until they get knocked off.

I think the original intent of the right to call a map has been lost now that koth is being seeded from worst to best.

It's not a serious comp and it gives players of all skill levels a chance to play their favourite map. This makes it more enjoyable for them, at the same time potentially increasing their chance to get at least one map win. This is why I think the rules should stay as is.

That said, the Aussie community trialed some modified koth last year, where the lower seed/map winner got to pick the map (though they had to pick a different map each time to avoid map abuse). A few US players joined in too (Barton, random, etc). Although this map pick rule caused some higher seeds to be knocked out early, it was still a lot of fun.

In fact half the fun/strategy came down to choosing the right maps in the right order based on upcoming seeds. A loss also resulted in the player dropping in seed ranks for the following week so they'd get an easier game next time.

for me KoTH become kinda boring to watch since in almost all games spectators know in advance the winners so where is challenge

i think koth is more important as a good way for new players to get into quake, as well as lower level players to get some experience as well.

only really know who will win at the end of the night because the duelers from the tdm community show up, before then it is pretty much up in the air and you get a lot of upsets and close games

I have to agree that it is meant for new players, because that is why this event can still go strong

on that same note, I still don't understand why you and adren make it a point to show up every week



also, for the most part as the night gets older, you stop getting stupid map calls and it is mostly maps you should at least be vaguely familiar with (with the odd balls being things like dkshaft or frdm3), but if you get a map like aerowalk called on you... yeah, you might lose since it is the players home map, but you should at least know it and try to best them on it or at least give them a game

I think this week was more representative of the skill levels since it was on a map they both know.

This quote right here is absolutely amazing, considering last week you bashed me for picking a map outside the realm of extreme competitive choice. You cant have it both ways fader! If you had any honor, you would self negate your right to select a map when facing me lol. Same for you adren.
