Curious...

I was wondering about something...When I play at xquake, every now and again I like to go into spectator mode and smoke a cigarette, anyone thats played me knows this...Well the other night I went into spectator mode and then about a minute later I was kicked from the game So the question is, are we not supposed to go into spec mode anymore? It doesn't bother me or anything, I can respect that if it has to do with bandwith or something like that. I do enjoy spectating, it allows me the chance to observe other playing styles different from my own and is a unique learning expirence .  Any help on this matter would be greatly apprieciated

One answer could be this...
If it was on xquake (not tasty spleen vannila) there are only so many slots open (one of them always filled by wallfly)
If you stit there for what seems to an admin, a very long time with no apparent movement, sometimes you will be kicked to make room for other players.

we do not mind actual spectating at all.  
Dukie is pretty much right on the money.

some people go into spectator mode to invisibly idle, hoping to collect custom maps without dl'ing a map pack or to just reserve a slot in case they wanna play when its busy.

on xquake we can have only a maximum of 15 players and there are many times during the day when its full and players are blocked from joining by inconsiderate idlers.

on the TastySpleen servers (xquake has been redirecting there for a few days, and it may remain like that), the number of players is set at 32 for now, so its not really an issue...ON TASTYSPLEEN.

it was just a simple matter of me being in an XQuake frame of mind, and not considering all the spare slots we had.

However I DID sent you 2 private messages before disconnecting you, asking you not to tie up slots IF you weren't actively using it (actually sitting there and watching other players is appropriate use).

apparently you were straining your eyes on the action and didn't notice my messages.  


consider setting your CON_NOTIFYTIME cvar to something higher than the default 3 seconds.

As an aside, I just wanted to mention that Wallfly doesn't take up a "real" slot.  Wallfly is a low-bandwidth admin client, and gets its own slot (a slot that wouldn't have been available otherwise.)

You're welcome to one!  All we'd need is for your rate to be set to 100 and your cl_maxfps set to 5 like Wallfly
