I was a good boy this year.... Found out I may be a Grandpaw for the second time, even though they are half a world away....

Lots of small LED flashlights and head lamps with batteries. A man NEVER has too many flashlights.

Lots of ammo. A man can NEVER have too much.

An harmonica holder so I can play guitar and harmonica at the same time. After about 35 years of playing both, I get into the Neil Young zone. Well, that may be a bit of a stretch. 

O, who can forget the stocking full of candied goodies.....

aside from recieving the usual stuff (clothes, wines, etc.)for which I will just give away also as a gift for friends, I was very much surprised to receive some cash. So  treated myself with an external hdd. was planning to transfer all the movies in my laptop.

It really ain't about what I'M getting this year though. I'll say more about that later.

My old man had a pretty bad heart attack a while back. Had medical techniques been where they were 15 or 20 years ago when he had it, he'd be in a hole in the ground right now. A few years back when the economy went to shit, he ended up having to sell his motorcycle just to keep his head above water, something he definitely didn't wanna do, but didn't have much of a choice. It made my mom happy because he had already broken his shoulder and collarbone in a spill off one years ago, but it was damn near the only "escape" and "fun" he had anymore. I got to thinking about all the horrible shit and worry I put him through when I was growing up (and STILL put him through ), and all the Christmases when he spent himself into debt buying me and my sister everything under the shining sun for Christmas. And even when it wasn't Christmas, he always did without all the cool toys and shit that he could've bought just to keep his family happy.

So I figured for once, I'd do something extra special for him. I would've liked to buy him a new motorcycle, but for starters my mom would STRONGLY disapprove. And she wouldn't be wrong either. Since the heart attack, he's having to take blood thinners, so if he were fall off a motorcycle NOW, even a minor spill could mean he'd bleed to death due to the pills. So the safer option is something like a car. He used to own an old 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS. Him and his old man spent countless weekends working on it in the garage when he was a teenager. After him and my mom got married, some asshole slim-jimmed the lock open and stole it right out of the driveway.

So I had a friend hunt me down an old 62 Impala SS for a decent price. So after everyone got done opening shit, I asked him to come help me with something. Walked him out to the garage and uncovered it. His fucking jaw was on the floor!!! It's pretty horrible looking at the moment. The body needs a good bit of touching up, needs new trim all around everything, needs new interior, entire engine compartment needs tearing down and rebuilding. I told him he'd have to tow it home and do all the work himself. ...so I let that joke run for a little bit... and then I finally told him how I planned to have someone else do all the work for cheaper than any restoration shop (aka my roommate), and if all goes well, by this summer, him and my mom will be cruising around in a classic Chevy hotrod. Making him PROMISE to park this one in a fucking garage this time.

First thing on the to do list is lifting the motor out and breaking it down. What's in it now is the old 409ci, the biggest beast they made for that model. If it's in bad shape, it's gonna be mega-expensive for parts. 500 here, 500 there, 2000 here, etc etc, and that shit's gonna add up quick. Dunno how expensive a brand new motor out of the box would be, but if it's too much, might have to move it down to a 327ci. From what I've read, there's only 80hp difference in the two. I've got a guy that works for Panoz up the road, and he normally builds race cars, but he also does classic restoration jobs on the side sometimes. If it starts looking too bleak, hopefully I can give him a holler and he can track me down something for a reasonable "friend" price rather than going to someone I don't know and getting taken for all they can wring out of me. But I've also got the Year One place up the road too. Anything I can't find anywhere else, they'll have.

The plan is to keep everything on it as 100% original as possible. I was toying around with the idea of beefing the motor up a little, but I don't think my old man NEEDS any more power than it's already gonna have. So no fancy wheels, no custom interior, nothing. I want it looking, driving, and performing top to bottom like it just came off the assembly line back in 62.

Returned a bunch of shit to Eddie Bauer the other day. I'm just not the Eddie Bauer type, sorry ma. I seem to remember a time when you could walk into a store with a fucking receipt and the clothes that still had the tags on them and get the damn CASH back for them. Apparently those days are gone. They make shit so difficult that most people would rather just keep the shit or exchange it so the store can keep the money. I ended up having to wait about 3 or 4 weeks for some kinda bank check to get mailed directly to my house.

Then went a few doors down to some kinda sunglasses outlet store. Looked around and most of the shit they had was crappy overly trendy and tacky bullshit that I wouldn't be caught dead in. About the only thing I saw that I liked was a pair of black framed dark glass aviators. They were Ray Ban so I knew they wouldn't be 20 or 30 bucks, but I never expected him to say what the fuck he did. TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY GOD DAMN DOLLARS. I must've unconsciously given him a really nasty look, because I remember him looking back at me like he was getting ready to dive back behind the counter and hit the panic button or something, lol. So when I picked my jaw up off the floor, he proceeded to tell me they were carbon fiber frames, the most expensive in the store, and a few other things I didn't bother listening to.

Who pays THAT much for sunglasses!?! Somebody with more money than sense, obviously. Somebody who ain't me. I'd probably end up losing them or scratching the lenses within 6 months. No thanks.

Ended up getting me another pair of boots. Some Rocky brand steel toe hiking/work boots identical to the ones I've been wearing for 9 or 10 years now. They cost me a little over 150 with tax. 150 is a lot for something you wear on your feet and get covered in mud and grease and grime and shit. But believe me, if you're on your feet for a long time day in and day out, a comfortable pair of boots is of UTMOST importance and worth every last penny. And seeing as how this last pair has lasted me 10 years and I could still wear them if I wanted to, I think 150 is a steal since that works out to 15 bucks a year. You buy a cheaper pair of shitty boots from walmart for 50 bucks, and they end up killing your feet and only last 2 years at the most.

Forget being the Eddie Bauer type. I sure as hell am not but I still love my flannel-lined jeans from there(warmest pair I own) and my duffle bag... I think I got a normal looking pair of dark green/khaki-ish shorts from there too. Long story short, my mom buys me eddie bauer too for the holidays....... haha. get on IRC foc

Yeah, I looked around for a little bit, and the only thing I saw that I actually kinda liked was some plaid insulated button-up over-shirts. I forget how much they wanted for them, but I've seen shit like it at Walmart for a lot less. Problem with the ones from wally-world... yeah, they're cheap, but sometimes when you wash them, the insulation layer shrinks up more than the outer cotton plaid layer, and the tails of it curl outward like a fucking Farrah Fawcett flip hairdo. I'd imagine the Eddie Bauer ones are less inclined to do that, making the higher price tag a little more worth it. Still, to me anything that says Eddie Bauer on it says pretentious preppy overpriced bullshit. And I don't care how fucking poor I look. I'd rather be the type of guy that looks dirt poor but has all his bills paid with plenty of breathing room for unexpected shit.

They're called "hong bao" , which are nice. Usually given for Chinese New Year. I don't get those anymore now that I have a job. sad times. I'm technically still "single" and unmarried though. Which means I should still get these, right?

I didn't have much of a Christmas unfortunately, but it was OK, I stayed home and played a lot of video games hanging out with my internet buddies.

I got gifted a lot of Steam gifts, and gifted out a lot of games, what with it being the holidays and Steam sale that was going on.

My parents got my a Chilis gift card. They have no idea I'm using it to pay for getting my maragaritas there. ehehe.

Participated in some gift exchanges, hauled back wine, a calender, and tea. love.
