I think the resolution went something along the lines of you refusing freely offered hosting so you could keep your sub 10 ping and force the select few other people who would ever give your mod the time of day to play on a shitty laggy server in your mommy's basement with 100ms+ pings.

Dude, where have you been? i been ignoring that troll for how long? Do you really not know this? why would i let someone i loathe Host my server?

No. He already told me what the conditions were.

1) He only had a texas spot available which is laggy for me, why would i want to ping 90 to my own server, when that is the only connection i can play on when i come here?

i play with lag all the time, why would i want to subject myself to some arbitrary condition of another player on my own server? something i enjoy playing?

So i should be subject to the fabricated criticisms of dervish to satisfy some condition or placate him in the terms of "fair play"? Cmon now, ex plays on a 20 ping all the time. Yet he is in texas and plays on texas servers. so there is no difference.

 yet i only seem to hear garbage about me playing on the same ping. it's just an excuse to lower the bar of my game by playing the handicap card. nothing more.

2) i already tried to have quadz host my server for free, but he said he didn't want to do it with restrictions.

I think there are a lot of players experiencing lag right now to both dm, railz, vanilla ect.

could be due to some tracert problem with softlayer as quadz stated. or the servers could use a reset.

I also think there is a huge difference between ex playing on a 20 ping and you playing on a 5-10 ping.

the only difference is that ex plays on a shitty system. i play on a system that can play battlefield 3 caliber games. ping wise, it's the same. he's really close to the server (he said down the block). my computer is the server, so i have - 15ms. big deal.

The big difference being your equipment just isn't good enough to host a game over the net which means you do have a big advantage playing on a host ping while others connecting experience major lag.

how much hardware does one need to host a single quake2 server? back then this game ran on a pentium 2. so i don't see how cpu time is even remotely a factor.

Ex plays on proper hosted servers, so other players wouldn't normally experience the same lag and packetloss they may receive connecting to your home server.

True, there seems to be something amiss when using a home server. adding some ms of ping is never good. But if you read what i stated before in this thread, it would explain that.

I am sure quadz would have some spots available if u are willing to pay $5 - $7 a month

Generally these days I recommend folks host elsewhere unless they're comfortable at a Linux prompt. It should be possible to find Q2 hosting in the range of $5 to $10 per month, and they'll likely provide a snazzy web-based control panel to help manage your server. (WallFly can be added from here at no extra cost.)

Incidentally, all the lag appears to be in your first hop, i.e. between P1-0.NYCMNY-NYCXNYCR-ERXG02.verizon-gni.net and your modem:

That statement seems backward. My recollection is I offered to host the 'mod' for free, just as we do with other specialized Q2 servers such as freeze, bang, jail, sheridan, rox, hardcore, etc.

Free servers such as these are managed by tastyspleen, meaning you don't have rcon. There are no 'restrictions' on the server itself, in terms of maximum number of slots, etc.

I seem to recall you turned this offer down?

but it involved him having to admit some of his past antics were silly, so it was a no go.

Not exactly quadz. do you remember says something about ad-hoc restrictions? i certainly do, because i had to actually look up the word ad-hoc lol. i asked if you would keep it to the configuration that i put it to, to not change it. you told me it's for the community and it will be changed according to player demands. well i decided that would defeat the purpose of the mod because i designed it to be a specific way.

it's no problem though. i like having my own server hosted locally. However..

So does that mean that  i can buy a new router to fix the problem? if not then, a 120 ping from (california?) seems normal as i usually ping 90 - 100, a difference of an extra 20ms..

There is no set time, i just posted it in the events so it would get viewed. The most trafficked times for CTF usually are on wednesdays and thursdays nights i noticed. weekends i'm usually away, so i don't leave the server up.
