Many mods for q2ctf suck, but the one running at ACME (L-fire) is very fun and doesn't suck even a microscopic 2dum dick.  Every other reason for Golgo's server not getting players is valid though.

You won't find players because:

-Your server is unstable. You need a dedicated server from a third-party host because your home connection is not sufficient enough for hosting.
-Q2 CTF sucks.
-Lithium game play is terrible.

i like how nobody that comments plays there regularly, yet knows it's unstable. i don't know how many times i said this,(i think i lost count) it's entirely playable. the only problem is, that the server may add an extra 20- 30ms of latency to someone that connects. So it may not be an optimal play experience but it is playable.

as many people have connected and played. also keep in mind, most of the players that connect are from other countries or the west coast of the US. (look at the globe map) even then they said they had a smooth connection (no spiking). yes there were some complaints there was lag, but then that goes back to the previous sentence.

even if i decided to put up a dedicated server there are many reasons to go against it. one being, i may not even be able to host the specific mod of my choosing due to host restrictions. the cost isn't exactly feasible for me at the time being, the demand isn't that high either when comparing the traffic from other servers. etc etc.

The server has a max of 10 players. it's well within the limits of the connection. the max it can host comfortably is 8 players. which is fine for a 4v4 small map ctf match. i could always tweak the # of players. i prefer smaller games anyways. it's more fun. The HPB's back then still played quake on a dialup and enjoyed it. servers were run on dsl speeds dedicated machines way back when, before the internet speed evolution of technology.

So i reject the criticisms by those who are not familiar with the mod. even if you may think it's a constructive (albeit a blunt form of it.) fader connected once with a 60 ping. he was able to play very well with it. (east coast) like i said, it all depends on distance & server load, which is for the most part untested.

compare my server to the latency of your nearest locations favorite server and it wouldn't be way off. compare it to the furthest server from your location as well. then show the results. (tracert) i do not think it will be unplayable by the farthest stretch, unless of course you are from australia :-)

i havent read 90% of this thread, but i already thought it was clear why your mod is unappealing golgo. maybe if you were to acknowledge the truth behind the stipulations set in your past lith ctf challenges to people you'd have a better chance of someone actually playing it, and in turn actually being able to formulate a valid opinion about it by your standards

well, it's not a good habit to omit reading things in the conversation and then interject afterwards. that is the reason for the miscommunications is it not? hmm? or is it being read out of context? 

but i already thought it was clear why your mod is unappealing golgo.

also it's quite general, to not state the reason why it's "unappealing". so i'm just going to assume what you're saying is that you agree with what barton mentioned. However i have already elaborated on that. perhaps you didn't read it. then perhaps you can refute it based on some evidence if you so feel the need.


i encourage user input, however i do think input is only being given because of the situation that it is the only topic that is receiving attention currently. only an unbiased CTF player that has tried it, can really give any real useful criticisms of the mod. Not to say that players in general can't make a general assessment but i do think accuracy in the details here, is what is more important.

This doesn't have anything to do with challenges. I don't know where you may have gotten that idea.  i haven't made any challenges recently. its more about having players just come to experience the mod. i do think you may have a different view as to the motive of the server being online? I'm assuming there is a stigma attached to it from the context of your POV.

I mean can you REALLY not see that? I guess it was wishful thinking on my part to assume this would be obvious to you even on your worst day. i seriously believe your turning this post into something it really isn't Lol. (mild trolling) you already know what this community thinks of the server. They're either Biased Or( NON-CTF players for the most part) I'm not going to Poll the players here as most of the players that visit my server aren't members of this forum. Again, you need to read The TLDR; paragraphs if you want to have a valid say in the conversations.

i know, i stated there was bias. (strawmans) also i think that you're interpreting the context of my sentences wrong. perhaps i'm not writing them correctly. i know you're not criticizing, useful criticism is good. (not exactly the same as negative criticism.)  i don't think either of us are wrong since it is both our opinions. so there is really no argument here.

It seems to me that it is mainly an inconvenience because you don't want to deal with accessing servers remotely, and yet you seem to think that trumps the idea that people shouldn't have to play with 20-50ms+ and possibly with packet loss on your server.

If your server admin, you want to attract players by making your server convenient to the player, when possible. If not, then you will lose your player base or you won't gain one. Go ahead, shoot yourself in the foot. :x

what player base? i don't really have one. this is an old game, why do i need a professional server to host an old game? yea i may not want to deal with all the cvars and stuff; but that is not the only reason like i said. who's going to pay the monthly bill for a server when there are no players going to be there possibly.

you want to pay me to put one up? i certainly will then. if not, then you work with what you have. it's playable with a small amount of players. like i said. it is what it is.. The rest is just a difference of opinion. having a 20-50ms increase in ping sucks, it may be "inconvenient" or a "server crippler". However those who are in close proximity that can still play or those which are unconcerned with "expert level competition" (average joes)will have fun regardless.

Instead of playing run around games, you should just cut to the chase. I'm not gonna sift through this unorganized forum of spammy posts for more than a few minutes. i already looked and i don't see what you're talking about. If you want to troll my thread clandestinely, fine keep up the nonsense, it will get deleted.

If you're referring to quadz, then it has already been addressed. Otherwise, you have a short memory on every other ctf thread you commented on this forum. it may be fun for you to bash ctf, i really don't care. there comes a point where i just stop answering repetitive, ignorant (not reading or remembering) or just plain stupid questions,(reading and not understanding/refusing to understand) and start deleting.
