I don't think you realize the sheer amount of security concerns with running an old unsupported operating system... There are more reasons to keep upgrading other than "oooo shiny"

Lucky for you your voodoo 3500 working in 3dfx and opengl mode 
On ac server u will get unknown renderer error if u try to connect with 3dfx  and ac enabled
Few years back every time when i wanted to play with my 2 voodoo2 in sli mode, only where i could play was tasty servers.
Eu server with ac forced wouldn't allow me to play with "unknown renderer" 3dfx

In attachment only approved 3dfxgl.dll by rich

EDIT: did little testing
q2pro 3dfxgl not supported
r1q2 with or without ac keep crash when u change vid_ref on 3dfx
aprq2 the same

nocheat and stock quake2 3.20-3.23 work ok with 3dfx
