alright hello everybody. I am ALLEN2 on the TS servers and i want to know what is up with the source ports?


When i open r1Q2 i get this:

Even for the damn updater i get that.

When i open quake2pro or whatever its called got it off the download section of the site, i get this:

Now when i press yes i get this lovely message:

My specs are:
Windows xp SP3 all updates
CPU:Intel Pentium 3 mhz are in the pic
GPU: 3dfx voodoo 3500 TV AGP
ram: 512 mb of ram

I own quake 2 on the cd and if you want me to POST that then reply lol. thanks for the help

Go to this website, http://q2s.tastyspleen.net , and do not uninstall your current q2 package.

download the entire q2 installation for either q2pro or r1q2(I use r1q2), and when the installation asks to locate your pak0, browse/locate it from your previous q2 directory in the baseq2 folder, finish the setup, then you should have a full working version of quake 2.

Afterwards, move your configs and stuff to the new q2 dir(games/quake II starter/... or whatever it is)

What do you mean by, 'after the cmd window pops up'...? The advice I gave you is like, the goto/standard advice for solving an issue like this...starting from the q2starter installation will also help people assist you better too since it can rule out certain issues. So just keep posting your problems and screenshots and stuff and I'm sure we can get this worked out.

i got like a windows installer error, i am getting the newest windows installer version right now if it doesnt work ill post a screenshot

EDIT: I have windows 98 SE on cd and the bootdisk, And i have windows 2000 SP4 CD.

Does the anti cheat work in any of those oses because XP is so slow for my rig

Wow. You're probably one of the last people in the world with a 3Dfx card still working. Most people I've ever heard who had them all say they eventually crapped out on them. I don't think I've ever seen anyone running anything later than Win98 with a 3Dfx card.

I have no idea what could be the problem. Your system is pretty old. Maybe consider getting a new one. WinXP on an 850mhz CPU should definitely be able to run Quake2 though. If it's installing properly, then I guess maybe the issue might be with the video card. Weird though, if it was having a problem starting using 3Dfx for the video, then I think it's "supposed" to default to software when starting at which point you go into the games options and manually select the 3Dfx renderer. Maybe you could try manually editing the renderer value in the game config before starting. If theres a "config.cfg" in C:/Quake2/baseq2, make a copy of it, to the desktop, open it and find the line for "set vid_ref", change it between to quotes afterwards to say "3dfxgl" (set vid_ref "3dfxgl"), then save the file, close it, rename it as "autoexec.cfg", place it in C:/Quake2/baseq2, then try to start the game. Maybe it'll work. Probably not. Who knows.

Ut99,Unreal gold, GLQuake work perfectly. My card works perfectly fine and if it breaks... i have another one. All the parts in my pc are brand spanking new with no dust or any of that bs. Im at the point where i feel like going back to W2k but refuse to because i got a bsod every time i boooted it because of the ac 97 drivers. but i could of f8'ed and did last good config (solving my own problems)

I literally get the same thing. I hear my floppy drive and my cd drive turn on all of a sudden though

i fixed it! I had to install it from my windows 7 pc then drag it over to this pc. All i have left to do is install the SFFT 3dfx drivers since amigasport sucks ass. Oh yeah and it wouldnt load the anti cheat opengl, it always says about some dll missing.

Does the anti cheat work in Windows 98? If not im sicking to windows 2000 lol. Its hard as shit trying to find a driver that WORKS with quake 2 (not those MINI Gl drivers)
