Quake 2 Co-op

Okay, so yesterday i wanted to play a game of Quake 2 Co-op with a friend who just got it. I thought it would be simple as
>Forward the ports
>Run my dedicated server for co-op
>Give my friend my IP
Well, that didn't seem to work. The only way we could get it to work was through Hamachi, which is totally fucking up my computer right now (randomly freezing, things not connecting to the internet, and computer locking up) So, i was wondering, how'd you get your co-op servers to work? I see that it runs a mod "coop" is there a file that i need so it works online?

Are you giving him the right IP? You have to give your friend the external IP or it will not work, assuming you did everything else correctly.

Honestly bud, in this day and age, I'd just connect to one of the few remaining co-op servers that are already up.  Superior has a co-op server up for each expansion and his server only has 4 slots so if you guys are partial to playing with other people(or don't like how some people just connect to frag you, not play co-op) then just you and your buddy connect an extra client each and minimize it so you'll have the server filled up.  I wouldn't recommend doing this all the time but I'd just play and if anyone joins up and starts being dumb, then I'd just connect the extra client a piece.  This eliminates you having issues with him connecting to you or vice versa, ya know? 

But ya, if you're wanting your own server etc, listen to what Gouki said.  Have the right port forwarded and make sure you're giving/receiving the right IP address for either one of you to connect to the other.

I'll say again to check the ip.  I use this site: http://www.whatismyip.com/

That's the ip the internet sees me at.

But like said, joining an existing coop server would be easiest and fastest.

my favorite these days is just google "what is my ip" and google will tell you right at the top
