Look at counterstrike. You don't spawn with all weapons, you have to purchase one and it's quite possibly the most played FPS game since they started tournament level fps gaming.

I played CS in LAN tournaments, in a clan, and won money on multiple occasions. You didn't and you don't know shit about it, as can be seen from your really really dumb statements about CS.

a: The desert eagle is ONE GUN in the game, not "the most common type".
It might be preferred in dumb pub play over other pistols bc it does lots of damage, but anyone with any skill could rape your face off with a HK USP and preferred it because it could be silenced and shot at long range accurately.

The most common gun used in CS (ouside of gungame) was probably the AK as it was rifle with the most bang for the buck and the Terrorists could purchase them sooner than CT could ever get Colts, and purchase them even if they were losing because of their low cost. This was so widespread that I really can't believe you ever played CS if you haven't seen it a million times.

b: tournament play and most nonmod pub play was handled on bomb/defuse maps. hostage maps were never the most popular or even played very often due to balance issues. Italy was about the only one that got a lot of play.
