New Tasty Server: Xatrogue

Hi, all :D
As the name suggests, this FFA server is a combination of Xatrix (EP1, The Reckoning) and Rogue (EP2, Ground Zero).

How to connect:
If you are on R1Q2, Q2Pro, AprQ2 or any other client that supports HTTP downloading, you don't need to set up anything. Just connect to the IP (or through a server browser), let the download list take care of some stuff and you will be on your way. The server will not download anything to the baseq2 directory, so don't worry. Also note that since this server is running in DM mode, I made the filelist download only the DM essentials. This means that you won't get  the monster-related stuff. If you want monsters, read on.

If you are on 3.19~3.24 or you simply wish to have the entire mod, you will need to grab xatrogue from here: http://ledzep.tastyspleen.net/files/mods/xatrogue
[Game dll/so/src not available yet. There are bugs such as faulty weapon sound origins, crashes on Linux from prox and tesla. I will sort this out first]
There are no packages of the mod with the expansion maps and their textures. The mod has the ability to add xatrix and rogue weapons/monsters, but in order to play the mission packs themselves, you need the game. This mod requires maps/overrides. It you can't make overrides, I suggest grabbing some of mine: http://ledzep.tastyspleen.net/files/overrides/xatrogue

If you are too lazy to do ANY HTTP downloading and you already have both expansions, you can just grab only the DLL/SO from the first link and install the PAK files from xatrix, and then rogue into the gamedir (be sure to rename them in proper order). This method will also give you all of the original expansion DM/COOP maps (although they will have entities from both expansions at the same time :)).

Weapon control:
I have made weapon control in the xatrix fashion:

Use rocket launcher cycles through rocket launcher and disruptor
Use hyper blaster cycles through hyper, ion ripper and ETF
Use chaingun cycles through chaingun and heat beam
Use railgun cycles through rail and phalanx (this is the original xatrix way, although I'm pretty sure that phalanx is used like a rocket launcher, not a rail :))
Use grenade launcher cycles through grenade launcher and proximity launcher
Use grenades cycles through grenades, trap and tesla
Use blaster cycles through blaster and chainsaw

You are still free to bind the expansion weapons separately. For example: bind j "use ETF Rifle"

So let me see if I understand this, weapons and items from both packs are smooshed together in one mod? That's awesome. How do you handle spawning them on maps? Random spawners?

does tihs have that item that blows up the entire map from rogue? :)

I just tried this out, it seems pretty fun, and it was cool to see / use weapons from both expansions.

I did notice that not all map textures were downloaded when I connected though, so here's a condump showing the missing files (after reconnecting):

Ah yes, this issue arises only on Linux servers due to case sensitive files. I am bashing my head about this myself :D

The item spawning is done through the use of overrides. Once I fix some crashes from the code that Rogue entertainment left us behind, I will ask quadz to Wallfly the server and it will be officially up. At that point I will continue to make more overrides and there will be more maps added to the rotation as I go.

It's actually in the map that the server is on. Look inside the building that you enter through a teleport.

Have you enabled the Disruptor from rogue? It's hidden within the official release but it does work and has resources included.

It is also on the marics35 override that is currently up (on the roof). I commented out that #DEFINE KILL_DISRUPTOR line and BAM! I mean WUBB. Yeah, that's that sound it makes.
This leads me to ask this: should I balance out the disruptor in any way? I mean, there is a reason that Rogue cut it from release... is there?

Well, I just played a few games on this server in a 1-on-1 game. So far, it's a lot of fun - I always wanted to see how DM would work by combining the mission packs together.

As for the Disruptor: It seems pretty balanced to me; I doubt it will need any changes. It's basically a weaker RL that exchanges splash damage for the ability to slightly home in on it's targets. It's good for fighting in long hallways or corridors such as the alleys in marisc35, as your opponent will not have enough room or time to move out of the path of the round's magnetism. It diminishes in usefulness in open areas, however.

Thank you for providing the server and your initiative - I hope it picks up a good following!
