Yes, I know windows 8 herp derp. but i just got a new pc and I am aware that anticheat is not usable with the os. But r1q2 does nothing but crash, even in compatibility mode. aprq2 works fine enough. But i really prefer r1q2.

BASICALLY! before i finally convince myself to downgrade for the time being, does anyone have r1q2 working on windows 8, smoothly?

Windows 7 is just fine as an os. Q2 runs fine on it. Not sure about 8 though...

I dual-boot between Windows 7 and Mint Linux 14. In fact I spend more time in Linux now than in Windows. R1Q2 w/R1GL runs just fine under WINE in Linux though I haven't tested it online with AC yet.

Erika: I only tested playing for like 2 minutes in singleplayer and online with AC off. Runs flawlessly. If you really want to play online then you probably should downgrade your OS until jdolan or R1CH give their clients true support for Win8.

Also that cartman guy is on my CTF team and we're suppose to play a couple of matches tonight. We'll see if AC still works for him on Win8 today, I guess.

It's very unstable.....works one time and not the next. $:-\$

I had to give him an ac exception for the cup so if he ends up with high score, let me know 'cause something is definitely fishy!

I have never supported Q2 on Windows. My Q2 builds are for Mac and Linux

Btw, running Windows XP in 2013 is retarded. Do you still use IE7 too? Holy shit.

I think the main issue is that AC is required on many servers nowadays, so the Win8 issue is a quite annoying one for that reason. Someone seriously needs to contact R1CH about this issue for a rebuild, OR someone really good at coding (maybe quadz?

) should help the community out and do a rebuild themselves. As Q2 ages more and more, it's going to become harder and harder to support without continual work on r1q2 and the other alternative clients.

We can rebuild r1q2. We have the technology. But when we rebuild it, AC will detect it as a modified client (as it must, for anticheat to make any sense at all.)

Indeed, Elysium has made numerous worthwhile improvements and bug fixes to the r1q2 codebase, available here:

But we'd need r1ch to adopt the changes, and/or certify a build as a legit AC client.

None of the above relates specifically to whether AC works on Windows 8, however.
