Even though I'm the one who originally suggested the idea of a rating system (with the intended goal of promoting more helpful posting and less trolling), I think at this point we would be better off without it.

For one, the current rating system appears to generate more trolling and negative posting due to the fact that users can negatively rate each other (though this is probably becoming less common since many users view the rating system as fairly meaningless).

Most importantly though I feel that it clutters up the forum and only serves as a distraction now. I'm also starting to miss the old,  cleaner look when scrolling through posts.

This really started out as an experiment, and I very much appreciate quadz listening to my ideas and taking the time to set it up and to try out new things, but to be honest I don't think it's ever going to add any real value to the forum.

Ely, be honest.  You're only posting this because of 2dum, aren't you?  I like you dude, but you're really starting to play the Devil's advocate here; i.e. being on 2dum's side will only hurt you in the long run.

You haven't been around much at all, so you don't know what's been happening as of late.  Ely has been taking 2dum's side quite a bit over the past few months, which is why he's now getting some negative attention.  This actually sucks for me, because I like Ely as a person and enjoy talking with him, but aligning himself with the likes of 2dum will only make the majority of the community view him in a negative light.  2dum started off his tenure in the TS community negatively, and his overall behavior hasn't changed that much, so I question why Ely thinks it's a good idea to defend him in any way.

Rating elysium's post above was the 2nd negative rating I've ever given him.. the other which I ONLY recall since he decided to inform some troll about it that is notorious for spreading lies about me on the servers.

i would think any of his positions he would take would be be rather mild than anything. i'd like to see some quotes of this. he mostly stays neutral here. i've been here for how many years? i still get the same reaction from a thumbs up vote than my past verbal retribution filled posts. either way it makes no difference among those that will be what they will be. the less you pay attention to them, the less feedback is generated.

i didn't complain to anyone and never to Ely because i really don't care. Its all fun / war games. Ely doesn't side with me because theres not much im trying to advocate besides having some of you jackasses join ra2 nights. So haunted, and ex and etc stop trying to use my outstanding reputation to smear Ely. I have worked hard to be the king of quake and to rule haunted and folk like the mules you are.

My posts always shit on haunted and rk and thats all that really matters.
I actually enjoy being down rated, because it shows how hard I own everyone. so keep it going rk, haunted, dervish, focalor, dicklick, ex and the rest of you asshurt clowns and remain owned for eternity. Hurry up and downrate this as quick as you can.

For the record, when I first suggested the rating system, I specifically did not want people to have the ability to down rate each other (I thought it would turn into a griefing tool otherwise).

Also, my post has nothing to do with 2dum.

   How the fuck were people supposed to be rated if it wasn't community-oriented?  What, the admins would have the only say in it or something?  Dude, if that were the case, some of the people in question wouldn't have gotten ANY positive ratings at all (magic for sure, ellpen more than likely, 2dum possibly and Golgo).  At least how it is set up now, those people I just mentioned have SOME positive rates.  Again, I guarantee you magic for sure would have a complete red bar, and a few others would have almost all red if it were only the admins voting on their douchebaggery.

The purpose of rates should be exactly what it's based on now, i.e. if you're a good guy and/or give good things back to the community, whether that be in advice, civil discourse, technical assistance, gaming help, or whatever the case may be, you get a positive rate; if you're doing everything opposite of what I just said, you get a negative rate.  The balance comes from people who think you're right vs. people who think you're wrong.  And if someone gets a shitload of negative rates, guess what?  THEY'RE WRONG AND THEY DESERVE THE NEGATIVE RATES.

The ONLY scenario where this is an issue whatsoever is when magic (and ellpen to a lesser degree) was systematically spending hours on end downvoting Dervish and upvoting Golgo.  Literally HUNDREDS of votes within a few short days.  Okay, you have a point there, that was clear and unadulterated abuse.  But what's going on here now?  Not even close.  The people in question DESERVE the treatment they get, due to how they have acted in the past AND in combination to their current behavior and lack of willingness to change.

Basically, for everyone to back off of 2dum and his idiocy at the current time, it's going to take a helluva lot more effort on 2dum's part to act cool and show everyone that he isn't just in it to troll people and get his jollies off when someone gets irritated over him.  Same goes for anyone else who gets shit on pertaining to this issue.
