Possible Pak File?

I'm curious that I use to know of a player that had a pak file that made his entire map just grey and have the players on a neonish color. My picture is a Irfanview picutre set on greyscale. It looks exactly like what the picture except the guns and hands wern't grey. If anybody has anyclue to where this is I would appreciate if you told me.

Infranview is easier to view any pics.  Q2 uses pcx's man, get with the times.

There's a few ways to go about making Q2 "black and white". I think the method Vae mentioned might work.

I think I've also seen a pak with gray textures before, or at least it had many gray textures. So you'd get most of the stock Q2 textures in shades of gray, but for any map that used it's own custom textures (like a lot of the maps on Mutant and Railz), obviously there would be colors on those.

The last method I could think of would be to use a black and white colormap.pcx. I've seen this done before, but I'm not sure exactly how it would work with different clients. I have two different colormaps in the pak item archive section of my homepage. I haven't tested this theory, but I assume that with R1q2 and the R1GL video driver, you could use the black and white TV" colormap, turn off colored lights, then only use a pak with PNG colored player skins so that only the players would be colored.

Those textures are absolutely disgusting and I have no idea why anyone would want to suck the life out of their game display like that.

However, I know this pak http://realistic.tastyspleen.net/PAKS/b_w_textures_original.zip has black and white textures, but I'm not sure if it has all of them since it's only about 2 MB. Tosher's site also had black and white textures that were hi-res, but it's been down for a long time. If you want to change your sky to greyscale, then just edit it in GIMP. Or as foc said, you could take your colormap.pcx and change it to greyscale as well. That'll make EVERYTHING you see black and white.

Looks like if you use the OGL render of any kind it ignores colormap.pcx.    I tried in stock OGL & R1GL in r1q2.  In software it works but then you've got everything B&W.

In code it might not be hard, someone could change the render so that the brush models are rendered a solid color & that wouldn't effect the entities.

The colormaps isn't close to greyscale at all. I'm saying is that the entire map was completly grey like what's in the screenshot. Also the black n white textures dosen't help either it's completely crap. The only reason why I want a pak that makes the whole map gray is so I can see enemys better than right now. The enemies would be neon bright as hell color and I could see them in a heartbeat. The only other player I knew that could do this was deft and I don't think he plays this game anymore.

Show a picture of what you're talking about.  What render was used.  What engine.

I don't want a advantage against other players, I simple want to be able to see players easier than now. You claiming that I want to have a advantage over people makes me want to laugh. This wouldn't really improve my skill at all, actually it wouldn't help but 1% or .1 at the least. Which is a very low percentage and decimal for playing. I simple want to beable to play against people that know thier stuff and atleast beable to see where they're at. And I've already showed a picture dunce, next time look closly and atleast put effort into something besides asking questions.

All kidding aside, though. At Tastyspleen, there's nothing entirely wrong with what you're trying to accomplish, otherwise modified player skins would be flagged by anticheat. Anyone who wants to give you grief about trying to see other players... just remember that an awful lot of THEM use brightskins too, whether they admit it or not. And there's nothing wrong with skinning anything in the game any way you want to. What IS wrong is modifying the actual model that a skin might go with. Everything else is fair game and personal preference and who gives two shits and a piss about what anyone else thinks about it. Until modified textures are banned, you ain't doing a damn thing wrong.

Brightskins are fugly.   Doesn't mean others can't use them though or have their own opinion, but I only have them if they're a downloaded skin from a game/TS files.  If I wanted the game to look like crap I'd be using software mode.  Or I could even do what you suggested & replace the colormap.pcx & have one color bright neon orange & make only the player characters that color & everything else be grey (that might be what he saw).

Players at QuakeCon don't do what you're want & they're better then anyone here.  Yeah, you showed everyone a picture, then you said "but that's not what I want", then you said everyone's out to get you because you don't want an advantage, just an upper hand against noobs.
