Many problems

Hello,
Help would be much appreciated thx.

a)I'm having some strange what feels like, screen being pulled or thrown left and right in certain areas on some maps, for example, q2dm3 lower rl, armour.  Whenever I go here it feels like i'm being pulled.

b)So many crashes

c)Players dissappearing, looks like packet loss, but ive never seen it before where i have  what looks like a good connection & no lag.

a)  Check your settings.  Sometimes a rate below 25000 can cause that.  Other than that, unless you have a shitty ISP, it could just be route issues.  I don't have them usually since I ping average 15-25 to tastyspleen, but I know that some people have issues with pings as low as 50.  When I play at ACME, my ping reads 50, but I get lag pockets because of a fucked up route to that server, which causes sticking, lag, and that "pull" you described.  Unfortunately, there's no quick fix to that situation either, although it's not impossible to fix for sure.

b)  R1Q2 crashes on average at least once out of every 5 launches for me.  It's just a buggy program, but obviously far better than the original q2.exe

c)  This issue is really intertwined with part a) above.  Players disappearing has to do with how your connection (and route) connects both to the server, AND to every other player connected to the server.  Same goes for everyone connected as well.  If someone "disappeared" from your view, that means either you lagged, they lagged, or the server lagged, and when the lag let up, the player jumped from one area of the map to the other.  I notice this happens when I'm playing someone with a quite high ping (200+).  Some guy playing from Russia with a 350 ping will jump quite a bit, even if the connection is relatively stable.

I suppose ex must be on the money, I tried q2dm3 offline & I dont get that bubble/pulling effect in the armour room under rl, seems only online.  Funny how it only happens in that part of the map though.  Because the spawn pad is the other side of the room.
I know my ISP had problems with the recent bad weather, could explain the dissappearing models.

Sorry to bring this up again, but it very difficult to play & frustrating.

I've done a ping test 3 times & everytime I got sent 4, recieved 4.

Also whilst playing with a solid netgraph, no spikes (green or red) & no connection loss symbol popping up, on tsdm I get the disappearing models, but I dont get this on rudm.

If its the settings, my rate is 50000, cl_maxfps 121 & r_maxfps 1000.

If will help i can post my config.

Some possible reasons:

When players quit the game it leaves an invisible box or something, passing through it will make you feel like you're being pushed or pulled. I noticed this invisible box doesn't happen if the player times out.

The visibility check to prevent wall hackers will make players disappear when jumping around boxes, pillars, anything that could obstruct view even slightly.

R1Q2 does crash a lot for some people, I have not had any problems with it in a long time, but when I do its crashes a lot.

My config is a bit funny because I have to copy n paste config b into config a everytime I load q2.  The reason is because the original config (a), never seems to keep all the info I put in there.

If you want q2 to execute your additional cfg stuff that isn't in the original config.cfg you have to use an autoexec.cfg.  Copy n paste all info from your config-b into a new text file, then name it autoexec and save as .cfg file in your baseq2 dir.

Cool, thx pan, did exactly as you said.  Spot on.  Ive been copying n pasting for 2 yrs!

If this helps any1:  My new ISP has a wifi hot spot.  I opted out & my ping dropped from 144 down to 116. 

Also, I should have said earlier, I have Norton Antivirus,  maybe that is what is causing the flickering models?

definitely would try and disable or uninstall norton. it messes up alot of things. try zone alarm instead. it's less taxing on the system too.
