Playing Q2CTF1, I get this texture error, among others.

How do I fix that? The ctf pakfile is untouched. I tried adding full game pak0.pak. Didn't help.

that is a missing texture, the way normal people do that is connect to a server, turn downloads on, and vote the map

might not be ideal for you though because you might get more than just the textures that you want

But why would a ctf map not have texture for itself when the pak file is untouched... Can other files interfere with the textures?

BTW I re-added the qsb.exe.

I can find a use for it. For example when you're on IRC, you can look at the server list and give the server to your friends without having to start Q2 first.

I'd say the package is at RC1 stage now. Please try it out and see if you can find anything that should be fixed.

I'm including eraser bot instead of gladiator because it's just easier to use.

I'm now creating the website for nQuake2.

It's basically going to be a ripoff of www.nquake.com

What I need from you now are "slogans" for Quake 2. Like the ones on www.nquake.com.

They can be silly or whatever. I just want something flashing up there, describing the game in some way.

I recommend adding the following binds:

bind F1 "cmd help"
bind TAB "inven"

It should be noted that the 'inven' (inventory) function gets used frequently in a number of mods (TDM, CTF, RA2, ect) to bring up a server side menu that's used for creating and joining teams. The default bind for this menu is TAB, so anytime a newbie on a server asks how to access this menu, this is the key that everyone is going to tell them to use. If you want to set another nearby key to only access the scoreboard then you can do something like this: bind q "score"

I also suggest using the following setting:

gl_coloredlightmaps "0.8"
The reason behind this is because most people tend to agree that id Software went a little overboard with colored lightmaps in Q2, which results in several maps looking over-saturated with color. I find that a value of "0.8" seems to take most of the edge off while still remaining true to the original look (but I feel any setting below "0.7" is starting to drain too much color).

I haven't noticed anything else out of the ordinary with the package so far, but I'll let you know if I do.

i personally think score goes better on tab, because that is the way it works in every other game under the sun...

i use f1 the same, f2 inven and tab score

I fixed two bugs in the installer.

* Pak0.pak wasn't getting copied when specified.
* Registry entries weren't added or deleted (which had the effect that QSB had wrong default settings).

I tested this in coop and single player mode and I experience the same crash on this map. This bug doesn't seem to be present in the last officially released Q2PRO version (r1093), so you're probably the first person to discover this.

You know, nothing would make me happier, then a grand effort to attract more players to quake 2!
I waited till now to see how this thing would pan out. I'm glad that you were able to flush out some design decisions.  ;)

I believe empezar's goal is a more polished and newbie friendly package aimed towards a much broader audience.

If we were really aiming for a much broader audience as you say, why are we ignoring the definitive statistics quadz posted?

The reluctance to make r1q2 the default client or even include it in the package as a viable option kind of disqualifies it for me, and I'm sure a lot of others. I've looked over the so called Pro's of Q2Pro and I'm not convinced. The client is the single most important design decision here. Its stability is paramount and trumps features any day of the week. More players will no doubt experience the said crashes, resulting in more random confusion.

R1Q2 on the other hand has an extensive and proven track record that is solid as a rock. The statistics speak for themselves. I don't feel a q2pro package is the way to go, so I guess I'll need to resume work on a more 'polished' alternative that actually uses the proven R1Q2 candidate. Thanks for your help, for making things clearer.
