I downloaded a movie from torrentspy.com. I have it completely downloaded and it is an AVI file. I want to burn this file to a cd and be able to watch it through my dvd player, now im not a noob or novice, and i know you guys answer these questions all the time but im not on a pc so all the programs you guys name of i cant use. I have mac OSX latest system. I've burned VCD's before but they were all ISO and it worked fine. Also how can i burn this AVI file so it has the upmost quality; is there anyway to make the quality as good as the real thing? Help is much appreciated.

you're going to have to convert it using a program.. i dont know any mac programs that do this but since ure using one you might know where to look. and it takes a long time to convert, i think last time i did that it took twice as long as the movie :O

I'll say a thing or two. You can't create quality that isn't there. Therefore, the way that AVI looks now, that's as good as it's gonna get. The copy/conversion can only be as good as the source/original. Especially when it comes to computer file formats. The AVI file format is already a compressed format, therefore it's already been crippled a little bit in order to make the file smaller, yet still look decent.

There are programs for Windows PC's that can convert .AVI files to .MPEG files. I believe MPEG is what you need for VCD, or something like that. Check out www.doom9.net for some info. I think it's only Windows based, but there may be some info for MAC too, not sure.

ive got a logitech mx-518, ionly use mouse1 for attack, teh rest of the buttons i dont really use.. so its possible to use a one button mouse and not get owned.

I don't anything about it, and I don't have a Mac to test it out with, and it's not free.

If you were using Windows I would have recommended TMPGEnc, I get good results with it.

Why do you want to do VCD though, DVD is much better, unless you don't have a DVD-burner.

is there anyway to convert avi to vcd quickly : )
I think the best option would be to get a dvd player that plays all avi files - if they even make one
that way, i could play all my seinfeld and free movies on my dvd player , without taking 2 hours to convert them !
but all i see are divx certified players
I use newsgroups to get most stuff, but it's kind of get what they offer, for the rest i use bit torrent which works pretty well but it's slow. It's nice though, if you guys read that post Adam made about using irc at school. You can manage your bit torrent at work : )
I always gave that info out to my friends, so they can surf anywhere at work. I guess I wouldn't recomment it, unless you knew what was going on, once it's setup you shouldn't have any worries. but you can take down a network just from using a port scanner : P

It plays Xvid encodes just fine, unless they were encoded with some weird settings.

You can view JPG's, play MP3's, and various video file types, including MPG, VOB, and Divx / Xvid in AVI.

Wish it could play Matroska files (.MKV)

Yeah, just burn and stick it in. It pops up a file browser to select what you want to play.

Majority of the AVI's I get are Xvid, mainly fansubs. A lot of them play fine, but you will find some that won't, or will play kinda jittery.

Yea, I own the dvd player art just recommended, and I like it alot. It seems to play almost anything i throw at it. And its CHEAP too!

It's about the same price as the one I posted

My suggestion would be to look at the specs of each and then decide which one suits your needs the most.
