Old(ish?) video, but I don't exactly see your point. Most people I know who think like that just trash "new" games because they haven't played them. I don't know about you, but I've had a blast playing Halo 3 with a bunch of my friends. It's just a different kind of game than Quake.
I'm showing my age here, but I have watched my oldest step son play the latest games on Xbox360. I've even tried a game or two. He's even bought me a few, but I just can't get into it.
In the console department, I just can't deal with a controller.
I don't know what it is....poor gameplay? rehashed storylines, or uninteresting ones. I dunno.
Modern games focus to much on story.
Good ol' quake2, we just kick those people in the nuts who gives a shit if something is OP, learn to play...
"If DOOM were done today: Call of DOOty II: Green Ops"
Ja; personally I'm fine with backstory, but once in-game I prefer not to be interrupted with vignettes or cutscenes or even having it take control of my character to witness some scripted event.

I like to compare HL1 & HL2: HL1 let you learn the story while you played: from what AI would tell you while you're walking by them, game chapter names, etc. HL2 stopped the game and made you listen to speeches to continue. Very boring.
That's actually a very cool feature rich doom engine.
