Quadz, I am truly amazed at how much money you spend on us. You could be going on a deluxe vacation every year with the $6,600 server fees. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I'm going to assume you are doing pretty well financially. There's no way I could afford that.

Rarely play Q2 due to "life", but very much appreciate your stewardship of the community.

For hosting costs, you could consider going virtual hosting.  I haven't done this myself, so it is just an idea.

east.tastyspleen.net is indeed on a virtual host, and Q2 has always seemed to be as solid there as on our Dallas dedicated servers.

I believe most if not all of the "packetflinger" Q2 servers also run on virtual hosts.

We run so many processes on these central Dallas servers, though. It's possible a virtual host could cope with it, but I don't know for sure. I've always liked having 8 physical cores juggling the dozens of servers we run on the fragbait.tastyspleen.net box, in particular.

But yes, it would certainly be nice to be able to reduce costs to some degree.

Was chatting on the DM server yesterday with a couple folks about Quadz' passing. They were discussing what would happen to Tastyspleen without him, would it be possible to keep this place going with donations, how much it would cost. I mentioned that I thought I saw somewhere where at one point Quadz was paying over 1000 to keep things going (I might've said per month, but I meant per year obviously). And I guess here is where I got that figure from. The graph isn't working anymore, but 6600 as Nephi said sounds familiar. That's a LOT of money. Quadz had to be making pretty damn good money to swing that. I think in more recent years with the couple of IP changes that Tastyspleen went through, he had found cheaper options.

But if any of the admins/moderators here wanna start talking about a method and means of donating to keep this dream alive, I'm sure there would be plenty of us willing to chip in and keep TS going at least a little while longer.

Also wanted to add that perhaps the server list could be weaned down to the more popular ones like DM, Xatrix, Whale, ffa and so on,  in order to make the costs more easily managed. Yes, I for one would definitely miss the ole Spleen and so hence would be very happy to put in.

That was per year, but it was about a decade ago. Here recently he was paying a good bit less.

No worries. I think Jehar and others have the know how to keep things running, and it looks like there's probably enough people willing to chip in and help if it's needed.

cool cause i really love the tastyspleen website its been my go to for anything quake 2 related i believe i used to use file planet back in the day but that i think was before tastyspleen really got popular nice to be able to go to a place where i dont have to worry about one of the downloads infecting my computer i do not miss the old days of looking for stuff has anyone heard anything about wallfly and if that is still going to be a thing that can be added to servers? i talked to quads a while ago about adding one to my server but we both didnt get around to putting it on my server
