it doesnt matter how fast your connection is, if you dont play on a server close to where you are, you will always get lag
ping = amount of time it takes for you to go through your isp to the server, in milliseconds

0-30 = you probably wont get this unless your less than few hundred kilometres from the server
30-80 = you want to be in this range
80-120 = you will probably be ok if you have a decent connection
120-200 = likly to get some lag. this again depends on how fast your connection is
200+ you will most likly be lagging alot

if your running any p2p progrems, it can really effect your performance, its good to turn programs off that use alot of cpu/ram/ and bandwidth
if you do have an older computer, iv found that upgrading your cpu and ram really helps your pings alot aswell
its possible that your networking hardware or the wires in or outside your house are damage
if your on cable, during peek times it will slow down your internet. but not enough to get the pings your getting

my best guess

is your waaay to far away from where the TS servers are located
or it could just be your isp... which would suck even more

The traceroute couldn't get past that last router, but it looks like he's only 13 or so hops from the server, and should have maybe 30-40 ping in game.

harryhood, are you cable or DSL? With cable modems, there is usually a web page for your modem where you can check signal levels, etc. Probably true for DSL modems too...

harass ur internet provider daily it works! i got a permanent free upgrade after a month of harrasment. ask for a manager and then ask for their manager. if all else fails ask to nullify your contract (for good reason) and get a new isp.

my isp, was going to upgrade everyone on their 5000 down/800 up accounts to 6000/1000 for an extra 2$ a month
this was supposed to go in effect for EVERYONE AUTOMATICLY on march 1st, which of course never happened

people called in and asked what the hell was going on. and in alot of cases, they had to call in 5-6 times to get a CSR that gave a shit

so now i got to do that myself

the isp i use, is really starting to become a monopoly, its pretty much the main cable tv, internet, phone, wireless provider where i am
they couldnt care less about the quility of service, we are just a doller sign in thier eyes

haha, i know this is an oldpost, but i love network stuff : )
a lot of times when you have high latency, it's because circuits are overutilized
traceroute only sends one packet to each hop, so it's not a sceintific test. a better test would be pathping (actually part of microsoft cmd .. weird)
pathping, sends a shitload of packets to each hop, then takes a minute and calculates shit
if you constantly have high latency, then you complain to your isp !
