Hey, finally got a new computer...and I was getting in such good shape with my old peddle-powered machine. Nothing big, but good for me, a dell4700. The thing is I worked hard to bring my orinal "max" ping of 1000(no typo) down to where I play now (around 200),  well it's been a long time since I did any configuring... cuz I didn't want to mess up a good thing(to me anyway). I've got everything about where I want it except for two things. The lighting is too dark, there are lots of shadows, where before I could see someone hiding anywhere. The secong is my mouse, I move o.k. foreward and back, but it is absolutely impossible to spin around quickly and shoot. It's as if I'm some kind of robot or something. It seems like I have to contort my arm and make my mouse turn 180 degrees to do it.
appreciate any insight you all have.
btw, I had to go, but I saw pretzel for a moment a couple weeks ago. Is she playing again?

For your spinning, sensitivity 6 or whatever number you want

gl_modulate 7 will make it brighter
gl_shadows 0 gets rid of them
and intensity 2.5 will make it brighter as well

thanks husker. Now that i have it set up and running good i'm getting bumped off and an error message appears saying, recursive error after: NET_SendPacket ERROR:WSAEINTR to 204.178.73.203:27910. What is this, and what can i do about it?

Max, did you copy your config.cfg, autoexec.cfg, pak files, and any other enhancements to your new machine ? If not, that might have made things a bit easier.

nope, is it too late too? All I've done is use the freakin tweakin set up that I used before. If you're not familiar with it, it is a site that allows one to pick what is enabled/not enabled by describing what each is used for. Once all the items are chosen, the program sets up the config file and all you have to do is paste in base2. I haven't done anything else.

Hey Max, if it were me, I would have first installed quake2 on the new machine. Next, copy the entire quake2 (all directories and files) from the old machine over to the new one, overwriting everything. This would get all configs, pak files, maps, and alternate clients (if you have any).

I'm sure that some things will have to be changed because of the different hardware, like video, sound, monitor, and possibly mouse and keyboard. But if your old configs aren't compatible with the new hardware, all you'd have to do is just change those specific things or you could just rename the configs to something else (for possibly retrieving them later) and start with the default config like a new install does.

You mentioned ingame that your old machine doesn't have a burner and the new one doesn't have a floppy. We talked about emailing that stuff to yourself to get the transfer, but some things like maps and pak files may be too big for that method. Sounds like you may have to link the computers directly to get stuff transfered.

 I got some, but not all by email. Have you got any suggestions on linking the two together. I am thinking I can simply use a phone line... but that's got to be too easy! Will I have to set up a network?

Why don't you put the old hard drive on the second ide channle of the new computer and directly transfer it that way.

heheh if I know Max --and no disrepect intended-- what you just said Solo probably sounds like "what cats hear".  In other words, from my discussions with him, Max is a pc newbie in terms of the technical side, like the overwhelming majority of pc users are.  So, adding the old drive to the second IDE or to slave on the secondary is probably easier said than done.  

Prove me wrong, Max, and go for it!  Good luck.  Solo's suggestion is the easiest if you know how to do it.

Thanks Solo, I forgot about that option. That's what I use to do before cd burners and networking (for me). I still have a copy of laplink and a serial cable stuffed away somewhere.

You fill me with such confidence! However, though my knowledge is still profoundly limited it will surprize you to learn that I am now enrolled in an IT program. So I have the text books from class to lead me AND I'm unaffraid to try... cuz I know you, Art and others here will bail me out if I screw up!
So when I get back from Christmas trip I'll dive right in.
BTW, no one has suggested the cause of the error. What file is the cause. Could it be that the 3.20 that I downloaded aint right? Or is it in my config. Also, what in the congig file has to do with connection, I could just try changing something in that and avoid the above(if its something there.

Max, awesome that you're taking the class.  No one was born with PC or IT knowledge.  It's all learned, either through classes or (mostly) just by doing.  And that means making mistakes along the way, lol.

Anyway, about your NetSend Error:

Try this, and after completing the task, reboot the machine.  Then try Q2 and see if the error disappears:

Click Start / Control Panel / Network Connections / right click your
Modem connection, select properties, and uninstall the "QOC Packet
Scheduler"  from the networking stack.

This is something you absolutely do not need.  To uninstall it, just click once on the QOS Packet Schedule entry.  You will see it highlighted, probably in blue.  Then, click the "Uninstall" button on the bottom of the box.  Reboot after the uninstall.
Try the game after that.  Don't uninstall anything but the QOS Packet Scheduler.
