dm3 FFA server

yeah, it's small...

back in 1999-2000 there was a server run by clan !HEAT! if any of yall remember... well anyways, it was an all-time dm3 server, and it was AWESOME. I played there more than i did at lynx.  That server was always packed and it was cool as hell ... max the clients out at 12 and it would be pretty fun..

what do yall think??

great idea that would help a lot of timing and learnin of angles with rg and other weapons for team matches as well as 1v1 on dm3

For the moment, I've taken the liberty of configuring goatass to run the same map over and over.  You can choose between dm8 and dm3 with mymap.

Once you set it on that map, it will run that map over and over, until you switch to the other one explicitly.

This config may change, just an experiment for now . . .

q2dm1 !?!?  Wasn't that map just sort of a flash in the pan?  Did that ever get much play? 

Well we could add dm1... but then I wonder if the server will end up on dm1 all the time, ...... dunno.

my thoughts are mymap will control it.  Everybody gets their day in the sun with mymap.  i love all the dm maps, but want to puke after the third run on the same map in a row.  Having it set to repeat would be great.  People join the server to play the map in play, then can change it if they get bored.  i'm sure if dm1 is there it will be played alot.  But a simple mymap will break the monotony.  i CANT bitch about it being DM3 and DM8 only however, cuz they is just great.

i'd even say drop DM2 into the mymap mix.  But im probably deluding the basic idea.....

Depending upon the difficulty of mymap, I'd limit the mymap q2dm* options on the DM server.  There is a higher gravity of players to the DM server.

Could you clarify?  Did you mean add mymap to the DM server, but restrict it to the q2dm* maps?

We could try that.  The reason I had mymap turned off there, is because I didn't suppose changing things like "infinite ammo" were appropriate for that server.  What I'll do is put an incredibly long delay on those options (like one year ) so that they are effectively turned off.

OK... Lemme know how it works out.  One thing that may be a little funky about the way it's currently configured, is, after a mymap, the rotation will continue monotonically from there.  E.g. if you were on q2dm5 and someone said mymap q2dm2... After q2dm2 was played, the rotation would pick up at q2dm3...  If that ends up being too weird, lemme know...

I think a constant rotation of dm3 and dm8 would be awesome. no mymap cmd needed really, but if it's that way then that's fine too. You could throw dm1 in there too, if people wanted it. also, i like deft's idea of the scoreboard..

Yes. 

My main point is that another server wouldn't see the number of players as DM, espcially a server with an even more narrow focus.

Mymap applies well here, because we won't get advance agreement on who wants what maps.  The standard ordering after a mymap fine, since someone can mymap to whatever.

I'm fine with disabling IA or other settings.  I think it is fun to play with Quad, but quite a few others don't like it.  If people aren't using it, I don't.  So, either way is fine there.
