Author Topic: Enter.net FFA Reunion (Read 9075 times)

Hello everyone.

I'd like to take this time to invite all the old Enter.net FFA players to sort of a reunion. It's going to take place, Friday, December 10th, and we'll start at around 3 PM Pacific / 5 PM Central.

That's the when, now the where: it'll be held at, 68.119.96.56:27912

Do you need the old Enter.net FFA map set? Download this zipped map pak I've put together (extract the included pak8.pak right into your Quake2\baseq2\ directory and you're set!):

I've tweaked the server configs that we'll be using, "to a T." Everything's all set - just on Friday, the day of the event, I'll only need to re-enable the weapons. (For now, you can only connect, run-around, talk, blast, and throw hand-grenades, for the most part.)

And I know this is on the spur of the moment, but I think it'd be cool to have, if not the majority of the old enter.net players back, then a good 4 or 5 will do..

If you're buddies with an Enter.net player, let them know. I want them here this Friday!

Even if you've never been to Enter.net before - here's your chance!

Currently the server has a maximum of 18 player slots (2 are reserved, however, with a special password. I'll make the password available and / or increase the max player slots, if needed, and providing there's enough bandwidth to go around!

The config is set to most closely resemble Enter.net's old settings, and we've got their old map rotation too - their latest rotation, up until they shutdown the server, earlier this year. (Mind you, I've tweaked the config some, to hopefully suit all players. - No muss, no fuss.)

I will try and be there. Maybe some of the leet players from the past will show up. Since they have moved on to other games, I might be able to kick their rusty a$$e$

I assume you posted this on gangstaboogy, I know alot of the Dpg guys hangout there. It would be interesting to see how Cloud, Bolo, Sushi, etc. would play after not playing for so long.

Hey guys.

Just wanted to make a note, that I screwed up on the eastern time I had listed before. I've corrected it in the main post above, and just to clarify, it starts at 5 PM Central! (Or 6 PM Eastern)

Also, my computer's power supply is giving me some beef again.. I'm debating whether or not I should just buy one locally or have a look at NewEgg's PSU's and shipping options.

Now I'm thinking it was stupid of me to jump the gun and have this scheduled so soon.. heh. But I'll see what I can do, and hopefully, surely, the show will go on!

Update:
Welp, I've purchased myself an Enermax Noisetaker series 320W PSU (model EG325P-VE SMFA) from NewEgg, with 2-Day FedEx and rush order processing.. so hopefully it'll get here either Thursday or sometime Friday, before time for the reunion.

In the meantime, I'm going to try out my current PSU with my PowMax PSU tester a few more times, and if it seems to work alright for the next 10 tests, I might hook it back up until the new Enermax arrives.

Update #2:
Alright. So I've got my old PSU hooked back up for the time being. Every time, it passed as "good," but the problem with it is that there is a short in inside it somewhere (that, or a capacitor in it is about to go - what a guy at the local store told me), that comes and goes. (It has kind of subdued for now.)

One other thing: I've currently got the server "locked," more or less, with only people having the reserved password being able to get in. (This was done a for a couple of reasons - 1. There's a new "goody" item, 2. For admin testing before the event.)

(And if you were thinking this PSU issue is on the machine with the reunion server - nope. Though hopefully it's PSU won't die on us before/during the event.

I'll try to swing by Friday night. Probably after 10PM EST. I hope the ping is the same as I used to get at Enter. (20-25)

I had lots of fun at Enter.net. I wish they would put the server back up.

Awesome!

And really, all Enter.net would've had to do, is put some form of DoS (Denial of Service) protection in place. It really was sad to see the server go, even considering all of the circumstances.

Well, the mod is OSP, or Orange Smoothie Productions rather, but we call this type of Deathmatch, FFA or Free For All. I believe it's just another name for 'plain Deathmatch'.

This is a really neat thing you got going.

I'm not familiar with those names, but I spent all of my q2 formative years on MPlayer. I was there when it came out (around 97 I guess?)...I left q2 and went to MPLayer Q3 for a year or so...and ended up playing Q2 on MPlayer before it became the bastard, hellspawn created GSArcade.

Then I started playing on the "INTERNET"

I mostly just wanted to post this last message here before I hit the sack in a moment.

AEstats ranking is setup - you can have a look at it here:

And currently, these stats are updated twice a day at 12:05, noon-ish and midnight-ish. (I actually hope to run the server for as long as possible - not just for this one night alone.

)

Oh yeah.. FYI, I have three servers, all at the same IP ( 68.119.96.56 / games.darkregion.net ), but different ports.
- 68.119.96.56:27910 -- is my 'whatever' / everything port
- 68.119.96.56:27911 -- is my TDM mod server (but it seems to have crashed earlier, so whatever)
- 68.119.96.56:27912 -- this is where you wanna be for the reunion!

But I've also, for the time being, made the server that's on port 27910 reconnect you to 27912.. so hopefully everyone that intended on going, will actually get there, one way or another.

Ya I remember a few of those names like s8|James, and I do remember the SDS clan dukie. Ah the good old days of mplayer :cry: :cry: Someone should put a list together of all the clans that have come and gone over the years, do you remember ADT, SS, 5K, GOD4, and the list goes on.....
